Aurora R12, PSU, CPU question

Alienware Aurora R12

Alienware Aurora R12

Question - since my R12 was purchased with a 550W PSU and an i7 65W CPU, would I need to upgrade the PSU to an 850 or 1000W PSU in order to upgrade the CPU to an i9 of (OEM specs)? Also, switching to the OEM CPU liquid cooler and VRM heatsinks. I ask because I see an option for an i9-11900K, 3.50GHz, 125W, 8C, 16MB processor, but wondering about the compatibility or how that works with my current PSU (550W) or if it would be best to upgrade to a 1000W OEM PSU (which I really rather not do, if I can help it). But, don't want to power starve key components either, if that would be an issue.  Thanks, M

You should be able to upgrade to the i9-11900K processor without upgrading your 550 watt PSU. As you mentioned, the AIO liquid cooler and VRM heatsink would be required. What graphics card do you have? While I think you will not have any issues with your current PSU, you would be approaching the edge, and might consider a fully modular PSU as a future upgrade (does not have to be OEM Dell).

@ProfessorW00d Thanks for your quick response. The GPU is the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 8GB GDDR6 card.  I have been looking at the modular Corsair RM 850W Series PSUs.
