Aurora R15, severe latency
Alienware Aurora R15
So I've got the Aurora R15 and really like the design, but there are real problems with this machine. i9 KF CPU, 64gig ram, and Nvidia 4090. I'm coming from an Alienware Area-51 R2 which is now 8 years old or there about and was since using a Texas Instrument card in one of the PCI slots. Works like a charm. Now with the new Aurora R15 there are no spare PCI slots due to the massive 4090 card.
The first problem is the Aurora R15 cuts out first 3 to 4 seconds of any audio played. Be it video from YouTube, hard drive or any music file. How is this even possible with a machine that cost 5 grand?! A cheap £400 laptop can play music without any problems and this is a very worrying sign this machine cannot be used for content creation. From what I've read from doing some googling seems this is a prominent problem with Alienware computers.
Did some troubleshooting with tech support and still no solution. We not talking any thing complex here just to play sound. I tried the different outputs from the Aurora. HDMI from Nvidia card, USB type C, and USB, and had the same problem of cutting out the first 3 to 4 seconds of sound.
Only good thing I'm still only 6 days into the 14 days return window. Does anyone have same configuration as mine,, and do you experience the same problem? This may well be my very last Alienware machine if this problem can't get resolved.
Upon doing a Latency test the meters went red into over drive which is a no no for content creation. Tech support is calling back tomorrow but I doubt anything will come of it.

What latency are we talking about here?

Latency in terms of sound? late play of sound from any source, and also can't handle real time audio.. as per recording with music software. If it can do the former then will be very bad at the latter.

Did you try the onboard sound card as an audio source? A sound card would be the preferred solution.
Also, uninstall support assist as it has caused issues on other users systems. You can always add it back after. AWCC is another piece of software that can cause issues.

Thanks for your reply. I'm currently using two sound cards and both have the same problem. Roland Studio-Capture and Presonus Studio 1824c. Also same problem with HDMI from the 4090 Nvidia card. I'll try and uninstall support assist and see if this helps.

Well, we could certainly help you troubleshoot as that is not normal.
However, it sounds like it is mis-configured for your use-case, and you will end-up returning it anyway.
Sounds like you really wanted at least one PCIe-slot for your sound-card. An RTX-3080 or RTX-3070 would be a better choice as it only uses the standard 2 slots. If you are not gaming ... almost any standard dedicated video-card would be better suited.
Do you really think you will keep it? Do you game on it or have a reason to have all that video-card?

As of yesterday I uninstalled support assist and music now plays without cutting out first few seconds with both sound cards, but still same problem when playing video and audio through Nvidia hdmi out. Still cuts out first few seconds of the audio of video. Both sound cards now play normally but measured latency is still horrific. Latency is still very bad, so it's still not up to the task at hand.
I went for the Nvidia 4090 cause I'll be using for animation and graphics creation. Also game play as well.

Ok today I've done some recording and played a demo song from Presonus studio one with loads of audio tracks and effects for over an hour and all seems fine. Only problem when i do a latency test still giving me very bad results. Now I'm confused. Im suspecting the LatencyMon softaware is picking up on the Nvidia graphics problem. Still getting first 3 to 4seconds of sound cut out through HDMI out when playing audio and video.
All seems fine when using either of my two sound cards so far.

OK, as you wish.
So, you are fine just using USB and/or ethernet based audio solutions ... forever?

1. That sounds promising
2. Not good. Latency-Mon should read fine (it does for me).
3. There is no inherent "Nvidia problem". Just whatever problem you are having.
4. Now I'm confused. Why are you using HDMI Audio if you have all these sound-cards. Sound should not even be going over HDMI to the monitor (I usually disable it so Windows never has a chance to improperly select it).
5. This statement is contradictory. If you want help, you are going to have to explain what you are doing exactly and your system config in more detail.

I'm using Presonus 1824c sound card with type C and Roland studio capture as USB, and both sound cards are working fine so far. The problem I'm having is with HDMI out from Nvidia graphics card out put. It cuts out first 3 to 4 seconds of sound. I did specify specs in my first post. i9 KF, 64gig ram and Nvidia 4090 stock card. Windows 11 home.

1. Even if you want to do gaming or animation on it, still say a standard dual-slot Nvidia card like RTX-3080 would have been better choice (so you can have at least one free PCIe slot).
2. It can be used for that, but that is not what it is designed for. Sounds like you might be better off with a Precision Workstation.
Maybe try a clean-install of Windows-11 Pro (64 bit) and ditch all the Dell and Intel software?

1. Right. But I see all sorts of outputs on the back. Why not use them?
2. When doing audio and music ... or just when gaming? Still don't understand why you are looking for audio from the HDMI interface.
What all components are connected to the end of the HDMI-cable after it leaves the Nvidia video-card. All of them ... all the way to the speakers. That's the "config" I'm talking about.

Latency has got much better when using pro sound cards, still not up to the standard of a pro music station. Updated a few drivers and followed instructions in another thread here of the Aurora R15.. ie power management, change of Nvidia power settings, updating of Microsoft sound drivers.
Still the problem of HDMI out from the 4090 cutting out first 3 to 4 seconds of sound persist. I need the HDMI out to my sennheiser ambeo Max soundbar, for gaming, YouTube and playing movies

After much configuration USB latency is much much better, but the problem with HDMI still persist.
And yes I would be using for gaming and graphics and animation.
