Aurora R15, vibrating noise

Greetings,

My Aurora R15 is making a vibrating noise and it's coming from the PSU area. I contacted Dell Support thinking I had a faulty PSU.

First, I was advised that I need to enable Hibernate to stop the clicking noise. Huh? What clicking noise? Support was adamant that I had to complete this step first, before we would address the issue I originally contacted them about.

After recording a brief sound (it's hard to get, it's intermittent), Dell Support determined it's either a fan or my SSD, and that 'since it was the weekend, try again on Monday'.

Sigh.

This thread has a video with an identical sound. How do I get this fixed?

You will have to contact them Monday - Friday. Others have reported the same sound and if you only have an SSD and not a traditional hard drive, the noise will not come from the SSD as they are totally silent and have no moving parts.

The SSD isn't near the PSU on the R15. This should be apparent to any technician servicing the computer in question.

I've marked your answer as the solution, because Dell reached out to me via email to discuss repairing options.

This has happened a number of times over the past 6 months and it's always been due to the PSU. Really push them with it and have then replace your PSU as soon as possible.

Someone in the other thread recommended waiting it out and the noise would go away.

As I did not look forward to re-wiring a new PSU, I decided to wait, and sure enough, about two weeks later, the noise went away and has not returned. I think it was one of the two PSU fans nicking something, and eventually the nicked bit wore down, or something. Because mine has been totally quiet now for almost a month.

I haven't had this issue with my R15 but another guy I know well did get it. The noise got worse and worse so he had to get a new PSU installed. Up to the OP though of course. Was probably the fan bearings in his case and not just a blade hitting the shroud.

Tech guy came to my house, swapped out PSU, sound went away entirely. I've been stalling responding, to see if the sound returned, but so far it has not.

I have the same issue and it's annoying. Not to mention this thing crashed last month causing me to lose my research. I'm very disappointed with Alienware.
