Aurora R6, CPU overheating
Hi Guys and Gals, I could use some advice.
My R6 CPU is cooking. Every little MS task that spawns sends my CPU up into the 90s. My fans are busting a gut and my video production has taken a nose dive.
I have no pump failures being reported at start up, but I have repasted and reseated my factory fit pump anyway. It has made no difference. I've turned up the fans to 100% but it does nothing extra to cool the proc. Fan filters are spotless.
I've attached a thermal shot of the pump. It appears to be working, one hot pipe and one cold pipe. Fluid (or heat at least) is moving which would suggest there is no blockage.....i think.
BIOS level Diagnostics suggests a overheat code 0314, but I already know the CPU is hot. Nothing else to be found there.
Is there anything I've missed, or am I missreading my pump heat signature and it is actually broken.
Thanks folks.

Hello redxps630,
Well it turns out it wasnt the pump after all. It seems that in my eagerness to slam in my new Ballistix a couple of months ago, I didnt pair up the slots. I had also left in the factory fit 8G Fury.
For the last couple of months the CPU has been getting hotter and hotter. Now that I've awoken to my mistake, I've seperated the RAM cards and dumped the 8G. Thankfully, we are no longer frying eggs. Temp has dropped from an average of 67deg (Idle) to a respectable 27deg. Editing 4K Video is nolonger hitting 99 either.
Big wake up call. I hadnt considered how much harder my proc would have to work with the RAM incorrectly seated and a mix of fast and slow. I'm no longer clocking over 4G.
Very happy that I figured this out before I blew up the old girl.
Thanks for the consideration..
Cheers
D

Re: It appears to be working, one hot pipe and one cold pipe.
try a simple LGA1151 air cooler to see if cpu temp can be brought down significantly. you do not need AIO to keep cpu cool at base frequency. if cpu is much cooler with air cooler, the the stock AIO assembly is presumed not working despite the thermal photo.

If you have a i7700K you could go for delidding your cpu and put liquid metal between die and heatspreader. i did this and my temps in idle are 42 degree in idle and max 65 degree under full load. My cpu is also overclocked at 5 ghz.

I would not recommend delidding a CPU unless you have the correct tools and are experienced with delidding.
You will likely damage the CPU beyond repair if you try it.

Possibly, but isn't that a bit extreme for first try?
Wouldn't he first try a more normal procedure, like ... cleaning, new thermal paste, and proper re-mounting?
Use something good like Noctua NT-H1 .

Hello again Everybody,
It seems my solution was not a solution after all. As I said above I dumped the slower RAM AND rearranged the other RAM Cards into matching pairs, and hey presto my cpu temp went back to normal.
However, at the same time I carried out a factory reset.
I have since brought everything back up to date. I now have the latest version of everything, BIOS, drivers and Windows, and guess what, I started frying eggs again on my CPU which seemed to be running in turbo constantly.
So I’ve reduced the performance peak of the CPU down to 90% and so now temps never rise past 75deg and at 3.5G we are processing fast enough for my video rendering. But it’s not right. It’s like putting weight in the saddle bags of a race horse.
So, I’m going to replace the heat pump after all. Will get the Corsair black and give it a go. I keep my chassis open so the bigger pipes shouldn’t be an issue.
Any thoughts would be welcome.
Thanks everybody.

Delidding is quite easy and safe procedure to lower cpu temps after doing the necessary research on forums, youtube, etc. Tool: Delidding Die Mate from the german overclocker 8auer is great. He has also a youtube channel where he shows how it has to be done correct.

They all make it look easy, but there is so much that can potentially go wrong I would only recommend this to those who have experience with that kind of modifications.
With proper cooling a CPU that is running without being over clocked should have no issues with heat or thermal throttling.

They make it look easy because it is easy. I did it myself a year ago and have no issues at all. I can recommend it fully.
