My earbuds have 3 contact bands. It works for the audio jack fine I was planning on getting a splitter but I am not even sure if I do if it will work then because just plugging it into the Mic jacks it doesn't give any input.
It is a set of earbuds which I use on everything. Just ones that came with my s8.
No, that will not work.
Since the Aurora-R7 has 2 separate jacks (one for headphones-part and then one for the mic part) ... to use those completely, I think you will need an adapter cable.
I just ordered one I will hope that it will fix it if not I will contact Dell because it has to be an issue with IO
The wrong kind of plug-jacks into the ports doesn't make contact properly and confuses the auto-detection circuity. Plus, it's impossible for it to work because the analog channels are not even connected properly (to the mono-channel mic in this case)

Exactly what brand/models are you using for the mic? May make a difference to help you.
Have you tried both the front panel and rear panel mic jacks?

Is it an analog headset with two-separate 1/8inch jacks?
Does the Mic jack only have two contact-bands on it (for it's mono-channel) mic?

The "TRRS to 2 TRS" adapter should do it. This is an issue with other brands and devices, not something specific to Dell.
If I wanted to use my old iPhone ear buds (with mic) on my home built desktop I would also need that adapter.
