Aurora R7, CPU temperatures, #11
Hi all, I have an Alienware Aurora R7 that I purchased almost 2 years ago. I've never paid much attention to the CPU temperatures but recently while I was looking to fix the problem of the PC "sleeping with eyes open" (the culprit turned out to be the Always Ready Mode. You should turn it off in the Alienware Command Center ASAP), I noticed my CPU temperature is pretty high, even in idle.
My system has i7 8700, 16 GB 2666Mhz Ram, GTX 1080. Looking at the temperatures in the command center, all other temperatures look normal (according to many forums and sites I've visited), my CPU temperature is pretty high. It is over 60 degrees celsius on idle. While playing games I found the CPU temp to be around 71 C (It was just Overwatch. I have checked the temperatures while playing a big AAA title game) which was normal.
Now my question to other R7 or i7 8700 owners is, is this the same for you too? Many searches on Google points that idle CPU temp should be between 30-45 C and if they're really high, there is something wrong with the CPU. I've seen posts which said stock cooler for i7 8700 is bad so they're the culprit but I've also seen several posts that said 50-60 C is normal for i7 8700 and that there's nothing to worry about.
I've just installed a program called Core Temp to check the CPU temp since I was starting to doubt Alienware Command Center but turns out that it was only 3-4 degrees higher. I have attached a screensnip of the readings on Core Temp here. I look forward to your responses.
P.S: Looking at the picture here, I see that the minimum temperature of i7 8700 is 50 C so maybe 60 is actually quite normal?
