Aurora R7, replacing M.2 drive, #4

Hi,

Looking to replace the current SSD drive, 256GB M.2 PCIe Solid State Drive, on my Aurora R7 with one with a larger capacity.

Would any of these drives be compatible?

If none are compatible can you suggest an SSD that would be?

Thanks.

Any one of them should work and this compatible list also from Crucial. The 970 is a great drive but Dell systems can be touchy about the 970 line. For many users it works fine but for some others there have been problems. More on that here. And a user that finds it working well here. Now there have been firmware updates to the 970 which may have cured the problem.

If you're looking specifically at Samsung, you can get their OEM equivalents for usually a lot less than the retail version.  For example the 1tb samsung sm961 m2 nvme I got new for $130 usd (it is the same as evo pro 960). And samsung pm981 1tb m2 nvme I got new for $120 (the not yet released 980 series non-pro evo). Both work fine in my Aurora R7.  Samsung's pro drives are a cut above the non pro drives in terms of reliability because they are mlc.

Hi r72019,

Thanks for the info.

Dell told me to look for PN: 2KXJH – Samsung PM981 1TB.

I can find a Genuine Dell Samsung MZVLB1T0HALR PM981 1Tb PCIe Gen3 NVMe SED M.2 SSD PN: 33M53

Is this the same drive (as it has a different PN).

Thanks

I think the first one is Dell's part number for it, and the second one is Samsung's part number for it.  The second one you mentioned is the one I have.  The specs for the PM981 should be the same though.
