Aurora R7, SSD as main drive?
Is it possible to change the main drive to an ssd on the Alienware aurora r7? I just want to know if anyone has tried this before I make a mistake and be left without my computer.

Yeah, I replaced mine. You can use something like Macrium Reflect to clone your existing drive over.

Aurora R7 with Samsung boot drive. You can even boot from PCiE if you want.

You have to unlink the drives via the Intel Rapid Storage Technology app. Right now the 32 gb drive and the hdd are in raid and being mapped as a single drive. If you remove the optane stick without unlinking and install a new drive the pc would be unbootable and you may potentially lose the ability to access all your data on both drives.

Alright, thank you.
Can I get an nvme ssd and still use the optane drive to accelerate my mechanical drive as well or can I only do one or the other in my r7?

You can leave the HDD + optane boot alone, and then add an NVME M2 via PCIE as an extra storage drive. It might be cheaper just to put a 2.5" SSD in the bottom 2.5" drive caddy though.
On the flip side, technically an Octane drive is capable of accelerating a storage drive. You would probably need to reinstall windows to set up the new nvme as a boot drive and separately accelerate the HDD via an optane drive. I'm not aware of any software limitations in the R7 that would prevent this (which isn't to say there are none), but I can confirm the R7 supports boot from PCiE. I'm couldn't say if it is economically or practically worthwhile to accelerate your storage drive though and you'd need an adapter to support a second M2 drive.
