Aurora R8, crazy fan noise! #2
I have the exact same issue with my R8, 2080Ti. GPU fan goes to full rpm, around 5400. I tried everything I can but cannot solve it. I have noticed many R8 owners who have the same issue. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXoCBIvBJmY.

Have to agree with you after watching that video. No way I would be able to adjust to the noise of that fan. When I selected the options for my system I recall a "recommendation" being displayed for the 850w liquid cooled option. I had to choose this feature myself or end up with the "fan only" cooling system. I believe it was because of the processor I chose.
To be quite honest with you I have not changed any settings other then color options in the Alienware Command Center. Not familiar with over clocking the system (it works great as is) so I don't mess with it. I have posted three screen shots of AWCC to give an idea of where my system is at while playing Battlefield 5 in 4k. Detail is outstanding and it is quiet as a mouse. I have seen the top and front fan temperature up to 60 degrees Celsius but front fan speed never gets above 10-13% and top fan speed never gets above 30-35%.
If you do have a liquid cooled system and are hearing this vacuum noise then for sure there is something seriously wrong and Dell should step up and correct it or issue a RMA to everyone who is experiencing this. No way would I accept it as "normal operation". If you have a fan only system and at time of order it recommended the "liquid cooling" option but you chose not to get it then you may be up a creek without a paddle and have only one other option (add it at your cost).

I have this exact same issue with my r8. I dusted it thinking it's a heat issue. It only started recently after owning it several months. It never indicates a change of fan speed in command center or a temp fluctuation. It seems to be happening for no reason during games. Must be something that's bugged.

Hi @MirelesV3 and for everyone else having this issue,
There was a BIOS release yesterday, version 1.0.5. Please run this update and contact me by private message with the Service Tag if the issue persists.

I’m gonna update to the new BIOS once I get home today. I’m also gonna video record the whole process and I’m not gonna be happy if it makes my system fails to boot again like 1.0.1 did.

Well the update didn't brick my system this time however it did nothing to fix the fan issue. It's so very disappointing to see a mega corporation like Dell who pioneered PCs in the early days can't get basic things right nowadays. I don't even want to waste my time with tech support who speaks broken English and knows absolutely nothing about computers and "support" me by reading through a training manual that probably filled with flow charts.

We are sorry the BIOS update didn't fix the fan issue. Every new BIOS introduces changes to features of the Aurora R8. One of those is the fan table. A new BIOS is expected for January for this machine that will change again the fan table. Yet, the current fan profile is aggressive and it will continue to work like this. You may continue to use 3rd party software to control them at his pleasure, however, those are not officially supported.

I too have been experiencing very loud fan noise to the point of scaring me! I have a liquid cooled power supply.
In another thread I saw people were recommending to completely uninstall the Alienware Command Center, and everyone who did that said it worked like a charm for them. I will do that when I get home tonight and let you know if it works for me too to stop the crazy fan business.

I have a week old R8 and had the same excessive fan noise.
I spoke to Dell and they advised a custom profile which does control the fans somewhat but they still spun up randomly, next was a downgrade of the BIOS to 1.0.3 and a fresh install of Alienware Command Centre and OCC controls, same result excessive fan noise.
What I've done now is update to the latest BIOS and removed Alienware Command Centre and OCC as well as all the registry entries and files/folders left behind from the uninstall and the R8 is running quiet as a mouse.
I'm sure Dell will release a BIOS fix at some point (I've a document from Dell that states this) but for the time being removing Alienware Command Centre and OCC works a treat for me.

Hey, guys! I saw the thing about uninstalling the AWCC and that it seemed to help a lot of people with this issue. I wanted to give that a try, but I have a question. If i uninstall the AWCC will that cause any overclocking issues? I don't overclock my PC but the AWCC controls it. I basically just want to know if I uninstall, will the machine automatically overclock itself? haha. I don't know if that's a stupid question but it's the only thing stopping me from uninstalling.

No ... the auto-overclocking issue is experienced by people who have AWCC installed (and specifically the OC Control tab), not people who don't have it. Even without AWCC you'll be able to set basic overclocking levels or turn OC off in Bios (which you enter by typing F2 on startup when you see the alienware logo on the monitor). Or you can install third party software like Intel XTU to set overclocking parameters. Also, if you don't have a K class processor, you don't have to worry about overclocking - it's not available.

I have the same machine as the op. With the same issue as the op. Which is why I'm posting here looking for a solution. So yes, it is very capable of being overclocked.
