While it looks like it should work

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT209186

It sounds like the Aurora-R9 thinks you are "over-amp-ing" the port. I suppose you could try the one on the back?

My question to you is what are you trying to accomplish ?

You can charge it with a "conventional changer" or the one it came with.

As for data transfer ... not many use iTunes for Windows any more.  Most of us use iCloud now-days.

@Tesla1856 i want to connect to backup to iTunes. Not everybody uses iCloud.

I can charge elsewhere but the fact the port seems to not work was the question, should it be able to?

Well, I'm pretty sure I already answered that question.  But again, yes.

I even explained what (I think) the Aurora-R9 was trying to tell you.

You can test the Front USB-C port with an inexpensive un-powered USB-C dongle and/or flash-drive (ie, something small and low-powered).

If the USB-C port on the Back of the Aurora does the same thing ... and you really want this to work ...

I suggest you purchase a larger POWERED USB-C hub. I suggest it have a power-supply equal-to or higher wattage than the one that came with the iPad-Pro. I suggest a name-brand or popular make.

I have a old style usb to usb c connection and that worked fine. Didn't power the iPad but did allow data connection

I can try the usb c on the back and will do that later today. It's more trying to find out if it should work and there is a fault in the Aurora or indeed the ipad

Everything apple wise implies it should just work, I assumed if it can't pull enough power it shouldn't try and will just do data. This seems not the case

the front usb c does not supply 45w of power

use a standard Lightning to USB A Cable plugged in the rear

I know it doesn't supply 45w, it doesn't need to. The power supply in the box is 18w but the front port is 15w so that might be a problem?

However, I have plugged it in in the back port and it has connected. The manual says that there is no power from this port yet the iPad thinks there is?

usc -c cable expects thunderbolt 3 which allows 45w power

all usb has some power but no more than 5w for usb3 -A

almost 1 amp on back and .1 amp on front due to passive hub

==================

Good to see that you finally got a chance to try the USB-C port on the back of the Aurora ... and that it worked

Yes the back pork worked but as I said, I don't see how as it's not supposed to be powered.

The front port is supposed to offer 15w which I thought was enough for the iPad but doesn't work. I don't need it to charge, just let data transfer

oh my god. I have the same problem.  I have Aurora R9 and Ipad Pro 12.9 2020. when I tried to connect to Aurora R9 in the first time, i got power surge issue on front panel USB-C slot.  But  back panel USB-C it works.  However, my front USB-C now stopped working for other device such as my oculus.  Nothing works now, it only detects power but no data transfer. I believe a lot of people will run into this problem. we just don't know what to do!

The manual says one thing and it doesn’t behave in that way. I wonder how to raise this as a formal support issue

i haven’t tried the port since, hope I haven’t killed it. Will have to try tonight

I’m not happy the port doesn’t work. It should do
