AW3225QF, what is this Alienware HDR mumbo jumbo?

Alienware 32 4K QD OLED Gaming Monitor AW3225QF

When Smart HDR is turned on in my monitor settings, it automatically toggles on HDR in my Windows settings as shown at the top of the image. But why does this prevent me from clicking my HDR drop down menu like it disabled it? Is this because it’s using a separate HDR when Smart HDR turned off or something… like there’s two separate ways to use HDR…

SOLUTION?: I found out why the HDR's in the drop down list locks when activating Smart HDR. In the manual, it says that Smart HDR will be disabled when Dolby Vision is ON. This explains why the HDR's in the drop down menu become disabled when tuning on Smart HDR, it's because it works in conjunction with Smart HDR and Dolby Vision is disabling it. This also proves that the HDR's in the drop down list DO NOT work independently and requires Smart HDR to be ON to actually show. Simply toggle OFF Dolby Vision in the monitors settings and you will be able switch HDR types that the Smart HDR is using.

BONUS: I was using Dell Display Manager instead of the monitors built menu (OSD) because sometimes it doesn't enable Smart HDR when selecting the HDR type in through the Smart HDR sub menu. The screen will go black but it doesn't mean HDR is on UNLESS you see "HDR+" in the top right when opening the monitors built in menu (OSD). Smart HDR can also be toggled ON through the Windows HDR settings, just toggle it ON under "Use HDR"

@Vanadiel

So I’m still a little bit confused. Take a look at my picture above…. so when Smart HDR is turned OFF is it or is it not using HDR Peak 1000 that I set it to from the HDR drop down menu? Because turning Smart HDR ON locks and prevents me from clicking the HDR drop down menu which makes me assume it’s not using HDR Peak 1000.

If you manually select a HDR option it will use the selected  HDR option.

now I’m getting different answers from Reddit… someone said I have to toggle ON Smart HDR in order for HDR to work at all. And the HDR drop menu is what type of HDR the Smart HDR using.
