AW3420DW, AlienFX, stand LED

Just got my monitor today from Dell but have a question on the AlienFX lights. I connected a laptop to it and the light on the stand did not work I couldn't get it to light up. I used the menu on the monitor and it shows on I figured it should have lite up. I don't have my desktop yet but wondering if something is wrong with the monitor? Should I wait until I get it connected to the desktop and maybe update a driver or download the AlienFX software?
