I noticed that on my R8, AWCC will need several minutes after Win10 login to be accessible. If I click on the icon right after login, I will get a message saying there is no supported AlienFX device detected and if I click "ok", it will take about a minute or two for everything in AWCC to become normal (i.e. fan/ lighting controls available).
That's why I've moved control of my GPU liquid cooler fan from the system board to my GPU card fan header so that my GPU won't blow up when AWCC decides to tank.
