Dell/Alienware Update Windows Universal application (4.7.1, A00)

Hello,

Does anyone know if the Dell Alienware Update Windows Universal application is a necessary update on an AW Desktop? I have the old R10 AW desktop, Windows 10 64-bit.

Although unsubstantiated, I previously had issues after this particular app was installed:

1. My Dell Client Management service stopped working or somehow disappeared from Services.msc

2. As a result, Alienware Update version 4.6.0 app stopped working entirely.

3. In a trial and error attempt to fix the issue, I completely uninstalled a couple of things, including this "Dell Alienware Update Windows Universal application" and some other Dell Updater. Rebooted.

4. Re-installed "Dell-Update-Alienware-Update-Application_3T5JX_WIN_4.6.0_A00.exe" and now I am back in business.

Now, my Alienware Update 4.6.0 app is again informing/recommending me that this "Dell Alienware Update Windows Universal application (version 4.7.1, 26.4MB, 11/24/2022)" is a recommended update.

Upon checking some details, it seems to be a 32-bit installer but works on both 32/64-bit systems Ref: Dell/Alienware Update Windows Universal Application | Driver Details | Dell US

File Format: Update Package for MS Windows 32-Bit
File Name: Dell-Alienware-Update-Windows-Universal-Application_0J6FH_WIN_4.7.1_A00.EXE
File Size: 26.36 MB
Format Description:
Dell Update Packages (DUP) in Microsoft Windows 32bit format have been designed to run on Microsoft Windows 64bit Operating Systems. Dell Update Packages (DUP) in Microsoft Windows 64bit format will only run on Microsoft Windows 64bit Operating Systems. When selecting a device driver update be sure to select the one that is appropriate for your operating system.

Due to my past unsubstantiated issue observed running Alienware Updater 4.6.0, I am not planning on installing this "Windows Universal" version 4.7.1 app.

Can anyone here help comment on your experiences for this particular app?

Thanks in advance.

Not needed. Most Dell applications are not needed.

I do own the R10 gen1 model. windows 11 64. ( was upgraded from win 10 64). IMO you should upgrade too. windows 12 is coming pretty soon.

I don't see a real concern about the dup being 32 or 64 bits. or 32/64

Dell Client Management service can stop for a number of reasons, had that problem a few times, not really tied to the DUP or Alienware Updater.

The updates are needed to correct bugs or for security reasons. In this case it's because - Fixed the issue where the process of upgrading the BIOS fails.  ....

( I don't recommend using this app ( windows updates) for installing bios.).

A security issue with the DUP could arise in certain circumstances were the app could need to be unlocked before running. This is found in the windows  file properties section.( see picture)

I only run this app to check what is available for this computer. Sometimes  it shows some not yet seen on the web page.Today aw update software shows only a new awcc update (jan 19th) and the web page shows  the fusion service update (jan 30th). As of yesterday all  were the latest.
