well PCs that run 7 years, and no problems need to be called gold no? ( SOLID GOLD)

the RTC coin cell too love to fail same time, and if does NVRAM goes scramabled and cant boot due to lost boot order in  the NVRAM.  even both bad possible and super common.

BTW dell does not manufacture HDD nor Batteries. sorry, (just like tires on car what you got is what you get)

hdd die on average 5 years,  -5-7 is proof data, we have.  so.... whats new there

if the smart test fails it is bad

if you have F12 ePSA diagnostics, there, run that on HDD boot.

IDK know any R2, and what BIOS was used then. not me, but you manual may cover F12. usage.

o run Alienware Diagnostics from the Drivers and Utilities disc

lost the disk? F12 is not smart this long ago even R3 same.

as  tech we have our own boot disks to test any hdd.

we run unbuntu v17+ and click disktest, done. (using try me mode)

or I grab my trusty,  windows 7 or 10 PE disk with crystalinfodisk.exe load and make sure C6 is =  0  if above 0 the HDD IS TOAST. see this bad HDD,  a FACT over  0.

Does it boot from a bootable USB?

If it does, the motherboard is probably still good and your hard drive is probably bad.

if the hdd is silent it is DOA,  motor dead. is dead. He's dead Jim dead.

HDD that will not self identify to BIOS, is DEAD, most are due to above.

HDD fails smart test are all bad. no questions more, it is DOA.

if cables did not fall off, or RTC coin goes dead, making boot order wrong. gee a $1 fix. or free cables fell off.

if F12 diag fails on hDd it is dead.

if x51 diag disk ran, shows hdd is dead it is dead.
