About to call support, tips

So my Alienware m18x is broken now

(On load or during certain activities (or whenever) the screen goes white and audio disappears, also sometimes it may go black, problem started a year ago with the second graphics card (two 580ms) causing flickering (uncolored) dealt with it by ignoring SLI, then one of the ram sticks fried (used the dell boot diagnoses to determine which stick) causing the white screens, removed it, now the white screens are back with their new buddies the black screens)

Just asking for tips for when calling tech support, so I don't have to go about the run around of diagnosis (Done tons of it, and no problem comes up, leading me to believe it has been a motherboard fault) while they keep me on the phone for awhile (called some time ago, and the tech support had no idea what sli or a second graphics card was, so I just lived with the problem instead)

Short form: How do you get tech support to immediately offer for you to send in the broken laptop?

Hi Dayrek ,

Sorry for the inconvienence. I would suggest that you run the diagnostics on the computer by following the steps mentioned in the video below and check if there is any issue with the hardware on your system.

There may be a problem with the LCD screen on your computer to confirm we will have to perform the ‘LCD BIST’ (Built in Self-test) on the computer. Please follow the steps mentioned below to run the “LCD BIST’.

  1. Turn of the computer.
  2. Press and hold down the ‘D’ key on the keyboard and press the Power button.
  3. You will see different colors on the LCD screen. Please check if color patterns are appearing on the screen.

If you don’t see the vertical or horizontal lines appearing on the screen while the LCD bist is running you will have to replace the LCD.

Also, please connect the system to an external monitor and check if the issue reoccurs.
