Alienware 13 Hard Drive Not Detected

I purchased my Alienware 13 January 2015. Worked great for about a month. Was a little peeved when I saw about a month later the price had dropped by about $200 (I paid 1100) and they'd upgraded the graphics card they put in it, and I'm still bitter considering the *** I've put up with from mine.

Come March 2015, I had rebooted it because I was having issues with WIFI connection in my dorm at the time, and when it started back up, screen said "Hard Drive Not Detected". I called customer support, which was a mess. The guy had an accent and overall, was frustrating to talk to. I have severe anxiety over talking on the phone and unfortunately that's one of the only options I've ever been given.

Later I was able to do an error code lookup through the site and it said it was an issue with the hard drive itself and they sent me a new one for free. I replaced it and it worked pretty well for about another month until I had the same screen come up. Read somewhere online that the hard drive sometimes gets rattled around and you just need to reseat it.

Now, here we are, a year later and I have to reseat it about once a week, sometimes, I get about a month, if I'm lucky. I wouldn't mind having to reseat it regularly if the handle on the connector wasn't broken; I'm worried it's going to break altogether and I'm going to end up having a hard time unplugging it without touching or scraping something I shouldn't.

The drive is a WDC WD10SPCX-75KHST0. I guess I'm just wondering how many other people have been having the same problem and if it's an issue with this kind of hard drive? I don't want to pay dell to send me a new one, now that my warranty's up, and it do the same thing. Should I get a different kind? Is it an issue with the 13 itself? If so, I'm a full-time college student and it would be extremely frustrating and inconvenient to have to send it to get fixed, and have to pay for it.

I paid $1100 for this computer and had a serious hardware issue 2 months after I purchased it. I should not have had any issues with it at all, and frankly, I'm really *** about it.

Hi,

It sounds like the HDD is coming loose way too easily, you shouldn't have to reset it. Perhaps, it could be a problem with the slot or the connectors for the HDD. It may be best to send it in for repairs so our technicians can diagnose and fix the problem, they can replace any parts necessary.

The information I've seen on getting an out of warranty product repaired shows it could be anywhere from 150$ up to over 250$. I submitted a request before my warranty expired for an extension but never received a response. Like I said, I'm a full-time college student and I'm very dependent on my laptop to do all of my schoolwork and sending it in just hasn't been in option in the past. Sounds like a lengthy excuse, but with how much I paid for the product, I shouldn't have had any issues in the first place. I'm wondering about pricing (ideally, any chance of getting an extension on my warranty) and approximately how long is be without my device?
