Alienware 14 no sound from headset at all

Hi,

I have an Alienware 14 laptop, and I have a problem with the 3.5mm jack input/output it seems. When I connect my headset the pc recognizes the headset, and it asks me what I just plugged in. I click headset or headphones, but nothing happens after that. I don't get sound through my headset. In the soundoptions where I can choose which device to use, the headset doesn't appear at all. My internal speakers is the only option there.

So I need help figuring this out. I've tried everything (I think). Updated BIOS driver, updated soundcard driver and all of the other "standard solutions" I could find while googling. It seems every site I go to, the same solutions appear. None of those work. My internal speakers work just fine and I have checked the volume after plugging in the headset.

When I plug in an external soundcard via USB, everything works fine. It appears in the soundoptions I talked about earlier, and I can plug my headset in the external soundcard for it to work. But I don't want to rely on the USB soundcard to be able to hear sound through my headset.

I wonder why the computer recognizes that I have plugged in my headset, but nothing happens after that. It even recognizes when I plug it out.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks.

I will recommend you to uninstall the audio driver, uninstall as well the Nvidia sound driver and then install the audio driver again.

Try that and let us know how it goes.

Hi, thanks for the answer, but unfortunately it did not work.

I uninstalled both of the sound drivers, so they dissappeared and there was no sound. Then I installed the audio driver again as you said, and the internal speakers was working again. But when I connected the headset there was alot of static, but no real sound at all. The Nvidia driver was still gone, so I installed that aswell. The static dissappeared, but still no sound.

The reason why I said I think it is a problem with the jack output itself, is because it is the same problem when I try to use an AUX cable to connect a normal speaker through the 3.5mm jack output (or input, I always try both just to be sure)

I feel like giving up, just accepting that it is broken at this point.

By the way, when I say sound driver, I mean the drivers from Realtek, which is the one I have. I have also tried to update a sound driver I found from the Dell troubleshooting site.
