alienware aurora - device manager shows unknown storage IDE controller

The device manager shows an unknow device "AH43GAIW IDE controller" under the storage controllers device tree.

Updating the driver through Windows 7 cant find the driver.  I am on the latest bios a09. and win 7 ultimate 64 bit.

What is this device and why is it not being found?  I did not have this issues when I bought the system from Dell.

I did upgrade to Ultimate and to the latest bios. Please advise.

Thanks

It's likely the on-board "Silicon Image SiI 3132 SATALink Controller" (for external eSata drives)

The driver is available from Dell under your model's Service-Tag downloads.

Tesla is right about this one do as he suggest I had the same problem after you download it unzip it remember where unzipped  it to.  If it doesnt run the program you will have to go to the location you unzipped it to and run setup. If you still get the unknown device in device manager you will have to follow the driver install list that is also located on the driver download page and follow the install order. I had to uninstall the drivers I had already installed and once I followed the list it loaded just fine.

Do you have any USB devices connected? Have you added any PCIe cards?

Did you buy the AW Card-Reader option?

Try booting up with only the KB, Mouse, and Monitor (video only) attached.

When you re-installed the OS, did you install the Intel Chipset drivers next?

Try running the program from the folder you unzipped it to. I had the same issue until I uninstalled all the drivers and followed the install list . If you boot up like Tesla stated and follow the driver load list it should work

The only USB devices are the keyboard and mouse.

I did not re-install the OS, just upgrades from win 7 home premium to ultimate and did not install the chipset drivers after the upgrade.

Yes, I do have the card reader option.

I installed the SiL driver and still had the same problem.  I am really perplexed.

Here is the screen capture of what I am seeing.  I will try and reload the SiI driver and report back.
