When looking for aftermarket PSU for the Aurora all that matters is the size. It can't be too fat to not fit in the hole or to long that it hits the hard drive bay.

Sir_Gawain put the OCZ 1250w PSU in his Aurora but he had to cut out two of the drive bays to make it fit

Here is another post of a guy that put the Area 51 1000w PSU in the Aurora. Lots of pictures and instructions

Thanks for the info. Will either of those two PSU work with the stock dell plug that is in the Aurora.Or,is there a big rewire job involved.

Hi again

I'm sorry but the Dell power supply harness is unique to Dell and will not work with aftermarket power supplies.  A new power supply will come with it's own harness. You will need to rewire the system with that one. It's not to hard to do though. Most of the components are connected to the master control board such as the fans and lights so you won't need to connect them. It really shouldn't take no more then about 15min to do it.

Even using the Area 51 power supply would require using the Dell harness that comes with it. The Aurora harness will probably fit it but most likely the pin layout would be different. You could end up with a pci-e power cable that doesn't work or something like. It's better to just use the Area 51 harness and then rewire the case with that. Better safe then sorry. I have owned the 1000w, 1100w and 1200w and I had to use the harness that came with them because the pci-e power cables are different on each model.

The hardest part of installing the ones I showed will be removing the drive bays to make it fit. You may want to shop around some to see if you can find a power supply that is a little shorter so you do need to cut out the bays. It's worth a shot.
