Alienware Command Center Error
I've reinstalled my Windows 7 OS and downloaded and installed the drivers on Dell support, after installing Alienware Command Center I've been getting this error message:
System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

Can anyone give me some enlightenment?
PS: Excuse my English if I make any mistakes.

If the first procedure doesn't work, try this one:
Try 2 - Clean Installing MIO drivers and CC due to poor driver installer support and/or the fact that the MIO-Board hardware device never prompts for drivers or never shows yellow-error in Device Manager when core drivers are missing.
This procedure assumes that the MIO-Board tests good in Dell Diags (outside of Windows) and you can control the lights and fans INSIDE Dell Diags using their tests. However, when you properly install Command Center in Windows 7, you get strange .Net error messages and the sub-apps don’t operate properly. These error messages mean the Command Center software is still having trouble communicating with the MIO-Board.
If the MIO-Board tests FAIL in Dell Diagnostics, there is really no chance it will operate in Windows with Command Center software. The MIO-Board tests in Dell Diags have been known to reset it in some fashion. The Power Dissipation Fix has also been known to reset MIO-Boards, so be sure to try them both.
Note: Never use the Upgrade feature inside Command Center. Always, uninstall old, reboot, install new fresh. Never install older versions of Command Center on a machine. Always re-install the same version or newer.
Prerequisites:
- Be sure the ONLY USB devices connected to PC are a normal USB mouse and keyboard, (not any Alienware TactX models with lighting or that use AlienFX) plugged into ports on back of PC. Nothing else.
- Disable your Anti-Virus software (and be sure it stays disabled throughout the entire process and reboots)
- Microsoft Net 4.0 Client Framework is required for Command Center install. You can get it from Windows Update.
- Have Command Center downloaded and ready to install later. A current, later release version is suggested… something around v2.6.17.0 or the new v2.7.x release (if that’s what you have been trying to use already). Do not install old v2.5.x versions (even if File Area suggests them to you).
Completely Uninstall Command Center.
Reboot and go back into Windows.
Delete folder c:\Program Files\Alienware
Delete folder c:\Users\YourName\My Documents\AlienFX
Go into Control Panel / User Accounts
Select "Manage Another Account"
Select "Create a New Account"
Enter a new name, and select "Administrator" as type
- Click "Create Account" button
- Follow prompts to create this new temporary user with Admin privileges
Close all windows and Shut-Down Windows (Power down machine)
Unplug the power cord from the back of your PC, then press and hold the power button down for 10 seconds to drain residual power from MIO board to further reset it and to insure a trouble-free CC install. Then, power back up.
Login to Windows with this new Account
Install the Command Center (for desktops) and reboot
Note: The first time a v2.6.x version (or higher) is installed on your machine, it will upgrade the MIO-Board's firmware to v2.x
Reboot if asked to.
Test operation of Command Center.
If it works, try rebooting and login again with new account. Test operation of Command Center again.
If it is still working, try rebooting and login with your normal (old) account. Test operation of Command Center.
You should now be able to delete the temporary account. Since changes to the machine were made with an Admin account, re-config should carry over to all users.
Good luck and report back if it worked. Also, if any steps are incorrect and need clarification, please let me know.

Alright, got the keyboard and the mouse, but... How do I clean install the MIO board drivers? Can't seem to find anything relative to the MIO board drivers.

Ok, I could not remove the power cable from the MIO board, even if my life depended on it. It's like it's binded by magic or something... Is there any other end I can disable the MIO board, preferably one that allows me to keep the skin on my fingers? (starting to hate that MIO board right now)

The instruction say to remove the MIO-Board communication cable from USB1 at the motherboard. The MIO-Board POWER cable stays connected.
If you want, you can skip that step.

also, i just noticed something else...
where you download this stuff, i see two files, the original A00 release:
2.6.8.0
and the one i am trying to install above that won't work, A01:
2.8.8.0
which is dated 2/22/2013.
but "in" that one there are "previous versions" and one of them is:
2.8.10.0
and in my exp the "10" is ten, and also it is dated 2/22/2013 and marked A02!
and there are some other strange versions as well.
regardless, it failed too.

hi,
i thought this might be a good thread to reply in, as people here seem to know things!
i have a M14x (R1) and it had Alienware Command Center on it. at some point it updated from within the program, but it still mostly worked, until recently, when it no longer did. i then uninstalled it completely, (well, dell support did), and now it won't install.
i was so frustrated i got a SSD and installed windows 7 64 with all updates tonight. guess what? 2.8.8.0 STILL won't install! UGH!
if anyone can help i'd really appreciate it, here is the LOG:
