Alienware computers

I see alienware computers are quite expensive.

What exactly is the difference between normal home built computer and alienware computer?

are there any significant boosts in performance or something similiar?

everyone would   have a different   answer to that to be honest ...

but:

Bragging rights

Something your  friends don't  have...

I  got   a M18X R2 .. so   a large heavy laptop LOL

design  I liked from the M17X R1 I had... my 18 is no different

18 is  one of  the biggest ive seen which  is   now discontinued  :(

Laptop  doubles as a space heater in winter months

Cant order parts from NCIX or other sites of  such to build a laptop

im bias to  the  laptop side of things.... but  biggest thing for some people

FINANCING IS  AVAILABLE!   which allows a lot   of  people  to  get what they want  without  building from  parts overtime

obviously the Alienware is pre-built, so you have to pay for that service.

Also the systems are 'engineered', the components have been validated to operate together, which guarantees a certain level of stability and compatibility you won't get from home built PCs. And you pay for this also, evidently, there are many people who don't have the home built option who can justify the price difference.

I also understand Dell entices corporate customers to purchase Alienware, there are major tax incentives...I got 40% discount for my last gaming laptop - was a great deal because it was fully decked out with SLI graphics.

It might be worth mentioning these PC's could probably survive a tornado.  They are heavy and I imagine if hurled at an individual they could do damage.  They are built sturdy.  I have had three at this point.  An Aurora R1, Aurora R3, and now an Area-51 R2.  Knock on wood no major problems.  Biggest problem was when my Aurora R1 shipped the video card was DOA but talking to those that build and ship computers that happens sometimes.  It has never happened since.  The only thing I'll say is customer service can be rough to deal with when there is a problem with your PC such as why it hasn't shipped in 3 months.  However when I called about my video card and other replacements they have helped me with no problem so maybe when situations crop up and they don't have the specific answer it causes a breakdown in communication.

Overall I have owned five or six PC's and laptop's combined from Dell.  Up until this point my parts have lasted a suitable amount of time and Alienware has constantly shown signs of improvement with its software applications and design.  I really like the easy access side doors to the Area-51.  To compare I had a nightmare with my GF's HP laptop that broke down several times.  Same problem with a few other store bought computers.
