Alienware M14xR1 Maximum Memory
AlienAutopsy-System Information states that my M14xR1 has a 16 GB maximum memory capacity and I have 8 GB installed in 2x4GB. Dell website for this laptop states a maximum capacity of 8 GB, which I have. Which is correct, because I certainly would like to upgrade to 16 GB, but Dell only sells 4 GB units and there is only space for 2 pieces in the M14xR1?

I think the M14x R1 model can take 8GB 1600MHz RAM or 16GB 1333MHz RAM - As Dell only sold that model with the 1600MHz option, maybe thats why they have it listed as 8GB only

You just buy 2/8 and is done, but is really useless

Did you end up ordering/installing this yet? I have the same issue; I ordered the m14x with 8gb and intended to upgrade to 16gb later, but that's becoming complicated. I just had a customer service rep tell me the max is 8gb, but I know I had the option to go up to 16gb when I purchased this or I wouldn't have gotten it at all! System info does say 16gb, I'm just wondering if what Andrew said is actually the best bet before I order anything.

The Training page states the maximum is 8GB for the M14x-R1. The Spare Parts page also shows 8GB max. The M14x-R2 can go to 16GB.
