alienware m15x touchpad randomly stopped working - still works on main load screen

Hey so I have an old Alienware laptop and my touchpad just shut off in the middle of using it one day. I tried to turn it back on by hitting the touch pad button and the touchpad lights flash on for one second and that's it. However it still works on the main screen when you turn on the computer (before you log in to your account and go through the facial recognition software). As soon as I log in the touchpad will turn off. Any ideas?
