Alienware m17x R3 - Win 10 upgrade

Hi,

I have an Alienware m17x R3 (2011) which came with Win7. Dell/Alienware did not bother to provide updated official drivers for Win8/8.1 on this model.

My question is, should I reserve an upgrade to Win10, will there be any driver support from Dell for this new OS or I'm just stuck with Win7 forever on this Alienware model?

Thank you!

I can't believe it....Dell is extremely lazy and ignorant.

Dell has done ZERO, despite  there has been several months of testing Windows 10!

Paid 2500$ for an Alienware in December 2013 and there are no efforts done in making sure all significant drivers are updated and ready to run on the latest Windows 10.

Dell - If you happen to read this- -> Mark my words :

I will no longer recommend anyone buying a product from Dell - Reason is quite obvious Zero Support

Additionally I will notify friends, relatives, work and network as mentioned before.

This is it - No more Dell products!

On my m17x r3 it worked fine. But I cant promise what will happen on yours since you could have an addon program that might cause problems. But on my machine it worked great.

My m17x r3 has the nvidia card in it and the drivers either migrated or downloaded on their own. I didnt install anything manually. When it finished upgrading I started playing games on it with no downloads needed by me.

Several months ago I upgraded my graphics drivers to the latest AMD offering under win7.1, I kept them updated and all my games saw the AMD 6950 card and used it.

Now after completing the windows 10 upgrade, I opened the AMD control center and configured the "Switchable Graphics  Global Settings."  to  "Maximize Performance". My games do not SEE the AMD 6950 but they do indeed USE it.

I have a MX17R3 2011 machine...I thought I bought an alienate built to last... And therefore supported at least for one to two OS UPGRADES AT LEAST. I spent 3500 on this machine.... DELL YOU LOST A REPURCHASE AND WHOMEVER I TELL.  YOU SIMPLY DO NOT COMPARE TO THE ORIGINAL ALIENWARE.... IN MANY WAYS... WHAT A SHAME!

Hi there,

I have the same machine, and it has been a beast.

The AMD graphics is causing the issue in moving to Win 8 or Win 10.

I finally did move to Win 10, and like everyone else with standard downloaded drivers it doesn't support the graphics hardware.  An NVidia card, and everything is good.

So what to do?  Complain to Dell?  Good luck with that!

I'm hoping someone in the extended community will mod a current driver for the older model so it can install.  I don't plan to replace the machine for many years (pace of hardware upgrades has slowed).

As to Dell's poor performance on this issue.  Companies only respond to one thing.  Remember this during your next purchasing decision, I know I will.

I have an alienware R3 and tried to update to Windows 10 after reading user comments about 5 times.  No luck getting it done.  Last time I got one step further when I turned of the power when it rebooted.  when I powered it back on it went past the 30% or so only to give me another error "Kernel_security_check_ failure"  then it reverted back to windows 7.  any ideas?

I wasted two days trying to update to windows 10, installing and reinstalling drivers. At the end always obtained a BSOD.

Success only came when reseted the M17xR3 from settings. The Windows 10 was installed from scratch installing drivers edited by microsoft provided by manufacturers, did not needed to enter serial.

The only driver that i installed was a Windows 10 version of the wireless network card (Killer) KillerSuite_1.1.55.1538_Win7_Win81_Win10.

After restart the notebook updated automatic to the latest video driver from Nvidia.

Everything working fast. Until now ...

It's not entirely Dell's fault.

I've been part of the dev. team since I got the invite.
sound words, RAID along with the ATI Software. Only problem I've been having is the microphone picking up voice commands. Then again, I did perform a new install of the early dev version.)

Don't blame Dell or Alienware, Blame the people who write the Drivers.

Does no one remember how they had to add the "Works with Vista" logo on displays?!?!!!

As a Dev., we know the released updated is not up to 100%. Mostly just waiting on Drivers.
My Win 7 Drivers for my IDT Sound Card works just fine, as dose the web cam. Just can't Cortana to hear me.

Chill, and add your feedback through the start menu-
Be sure to include a report.

I have also a m17xr3 with nvidia GTX 560m.

Windows 10 installed (i do nothing more than follow the windows 10 update popup and install new nvidia driver), everything works fine (game, sd card reader, blue ray, 3d, ...) except the fan...

With nothing running or open, the fan speed seems too high, so my laptop has become too noisy.

if someone have an idea, or already fix this problem (driver ?) ?

Hi again,

I finally find the problem on my M17x R3,

The software from intel " Intel Rapid Storage Technology " used more than 20% of CPU resources all the time and make the CPU running at more than 3 GHz...

I download and install the last version for windows 10 from the intel website, and problem fix.

Hope this will help.

Did you download the driver first and then upgraded to windows 10?  Can you post the link to the diriver?
