Alienware x51 R2 Stuck on gray screen with cursor. (windows 8.1)

Hello everyone

The problem happened when i tried updating my intel CPU using the Intel Driver Update Utility then something went wrong and got me stuck on my desktop but with working cursor so i restarted it and now im here. I tried doing the safe boot (Shift+F8 during the alienware logo and the ball circling around loading screen) and it didnt work. It gave me a blue screen for a few seconds then it goes to the gray screen with the cursor problem. Please help guys and thanks.

Hello,

If you are able to get to the Windows login screen, try holding the right "Shift" key and selecting the restart option with the mouse cursor from the power settings section. This step should also take you to the recovery options and once you are there, you can try doing a system restore to undo the changes. Click here to view an article which explains this step and other procedures for accessing the recovery options. Please let us know if it works.

What happens if you press Ctrl-Alt-Delete on that grey screen? If nothing happens, there may be a corruption with the Windows operating system. Since we cannot access the recovery options, the only other option would be to reinstall Windows using the recovery media which you might have received. Click here to view a video from our Alienware Youtube channel that explains how to do this procedure.
