Area 51 boot problems
I just received an exchange for my Area 51 desktop which I purchased in May 2011. It had nothing but boot up problems from right out of the box. It would lag on boot up and take up to 4 minutes to finally boot. Most of the time it would not boot up at all and i would have to keep restarting it. I called Alienware tech services and they sent a in-home tech out on 4 different occasions. They replaced the vents on top, the hard drive, the video card, the motherboard, the I/O board, the memory all to no avail and the tech just gave up. Finally Dell exchanged the computer for a new one which I recieved a week ago. It started out fine and then started having the same problems as the previous area 51 that I just sent back. I had to try to boot the computer 5 times before it finally booted into windows this morning. I ran all the problem solving software and none could detect a problem. I have gotten to the point where I am afraid to reboot the computer.
I firmly believe that the problem exists with the A10 bios which Dell offers for the Alienware area 51 and other Alienware computers. The boot problem begins when the computer is attempting to read the bios and hangs up before I can even push the F2 or F11 keys to access the bios or the startup sequence. In that case I could'nt even get the ability to boot from the dvd, since it won't load the bios to that point.
Someone needs to let Dell know that the A10 bios needs to be redone. It just doesn't work with many of the current Alienware configurations. I can see having a problem with one brand new computer, but not the same problem with 2 new Area 51's!!
Fix the bios please or find out what the problem is with the area 51 configuration.
