Cleaning Alienware R2 15

Hi,

I am concerned about dust build-up inside my Alienware R2 15, particularly in the fans, but I am not confident with opening it up to clean it myself.

Will engaging a third party company to clean it void my warranty? Or can I organise for a Dell professional to do the clean for me?

Thanks so much.

Thanks for this. Looking at the service manual, removing the fans for cleaning seems like a very complicated procedure that I'm not sure I could perform myself. If dust eventually causes overheating and some sort of hardware failure, will this be covered by warranty?

I want to maintain the system as well as I can, but at the same time, I don't want to risk damaging it by trying myself or having a non-Dell tech perform the work.

Thanks again.

Hi,

There will be no problem on having a third party company cleaning your system, but If a part gets damaged during the process, Dell will not cover it. But opening the computer to clean it, that will not void the warranty.

If the system is overheating or having any other hardware failure, yes, Dell will cover it as long a you have warranty.

You can take the system to third party company for them to clean it, they just need to be very careful, they must be used to this sort of thing.

buy a can of compresed air, and blow air directly to the vents with your laptop turned off

this will remove the dust traped on your heatsink too
