my new alienware 18 is missing coin cell battery. can someone tell me what model and type of battery it is/

No, it is a 3v battery, but won't perform like the CMOS battery that goes into that model was designed for.
RTC CR2032 with connection wires is a viable replacement, Dell P/N 3K03F
You may run into problems later if the OEM battery is not replaced in this model. In a free world you are titled to do to you property as you see fit. I can only give you educated suggestions and It is entirely up to you how you proceed.
