Exporting Alienware CPU Fan

Dear Alienware community

Intro:

Four Days ago, the fateful day had to arise, my 5 year old system bit the dust, quite literately .. so much dust hidden in that case. So i got myself a new motherboard and a new case since it sadly didn't fit anymore.

So i wanted to save everything even remotely from my old pc, as a memento and since i don't see the point in throwing away things that work.

Question:

how can i export my alienware cpu to my new system. Sadly the cpu pump seems to be a alienware "special", and i can't seem to find any decent posts about if it's important or not. Or how to reconnect it somehow. my current fan is, well the basic intel cpu fan you get for free, and it's quite bad to say the least.

Aditional Data:

All parts except for the mainboard are still avaliable.

New motherboard is the : msi z97Gaming 3 (yeah i know, 3rd world country i'm living in, not really any decent other options)

heatpaste avaliable, the fan fits after a few detail changes. (to the metal ring, i didn't touch the fan itself)

end:

Thanks in advance for any reply, even if it's a soul crushing "it's dead mate, let it rest".

Best regards, darkminaz

you can't use your alien-cooler, unless you snip off the 7pin connector, snip off the jumper wire, attach / crimp on 3 new pins & insert them correctly into a new 3pin fan connector:

available online at pc supply stores etc

if you can't do that, or have someone do it for you, sell your cooler, buy a new liqwid cooler, Corsair Zalman Antec, whatever you prefer. Donate your old case, recycle it, pass it on as a gift or sell it online, yard sale, co-worker etc

Your cpu isn't a socket 1150 so it can't go in the Z97. Sell all you can to help pay for the new rig ...

so all i have to do is cut it for an extra 3pin power.  Okay, i can do that, i just have to find a shop that sells those things here in cambodia. I assumed it was more then that somehow and i wasn't enough into electronics to know for sure.

I already got a new cpu and put the old one op for sale, i only kept the ram and the internal fans (+ graphic card). Not sure if someone wants an entire alienware case "lego" style project, but well maybe there are people who like to demolish and rebuild things as much as i do.

Big thanks for the fast reply, ill check where to find them.

I've got some photos in here:

pumps are wired up left-to-right just like a fan. I gave you a photo of the 7pin, grd-12v-rpm. when you flip the connector over, the ground in slot #1 has a jumper wire & an 'arrow' on the connector, so you know which it is. Assemble your pins into your 3pin fan connector just like you see in the photos & it'll work.

To run your pump it needs 12volts, normally from the mthrbrd cpu_fan header, but you must also put your radiator/system fan on a mthrbrd fan header also, so hopefully your mthrbrd has a cpu & optional cpu fan header pair, to run the pump & the fan for the radiator.

if not, try one of these for your pump to give it constant 12volt/ground - 3pin to molex -

this is my contact in HongKong - maybe she can hook you up - she's got it all:

I was walking around today, sadly nobody seemed to have the 3pin.i got 5 slots, 2 cpu fan, 3 sysfans, so that woudn't be a problem.

Somehow the 2nd option looks like the better alternative, since i can't control the watercooling anyway, i hardly see the point of attaching it to the motherboard.

(2 on top (external power), 1 front, 1 big back, watercooling (external power), 1 bottom, 1 lower front and one free slot in case the new graphic card needs help) that sounds quite good.

ill order it from your contact, thanks for that info.

2x 3pin,6 pins, 1x 12volt/ground - 3pin to molex

Dear cass-ole

i just finished the setup yesterday (had to get some extra screws to mount it on the motherboard propperly)

After i coudn't find the pins anywhere in the city and ebay was out since my paypal is used by 3 people (i can't change the adress therefore) i decided to just buy a cheap fan for 2 dollar, cut the cable and connect them togetter. And it works like a charm.

Maxcpu temp is now 70 while rendering at 4,4ghz, normal at around 35.

So, long text but from the bottom of my heart, thank you.20150616_132418.jpg
