M14x Flickering Screen

I am curious how many other M14x users have had the same issue with the screen flickering I am currently dealing with. As soon as I started my M14x I noticed the screen was flickering. Occasionally it would go to a screen that was completely static. The onsite tech replaced the LCD and Alienware is hopefully shipping me a new motherboard (their system was 'down' when I called).

Since I just bought machine and I'm still within my 21 days to return it I would like to know how common this issue is. If there are a lot of others who are having this issue I think I might return the unit and get something else. Not only is waiting for repairs very annoying, especially on a new machine, I don't want to be lucky enough to experience the issue after my warranty expires and be stuck with an extremely expensive paperweight.

If you have experienced this issue please let me know if you have had it more than once. I am sure replacing the motherboard will fix the issue but doing some web searches made me think this might be a design flaw or a quality issue that is more common than anyone wants to admit.

I've had my M14x for a little over 3 months now and I haven't experienced that problem. This is the first I've heard about a problem with the screen besides the glare.

Well they replaced the mobo and it worked great for a few hours last night. I shut it down when I went to bed, now it just beeps :(. On the phone with technical support now but I'm beginning to lose faith in both Alienware and Dell. The machine has been here a week and I have only seen 3 - 4 hours of use.

I just recieved my new m14x, and i have the flicker issue out of the box. They came and installed a new mobo and lcd today, worked fine for a few hours, and now it is flickering again. Any solution or do i just need to send it back? Sad to think a higher end machines had such constant issues.

The only solution is to replace the motherboard. Replacing it should have taken care of the issue but apparently your replacement mobo was bad too. If you call technical support they will probably want to send it to their depo leaving you without your new toy for a week or two. I talked them into sending another part but I'm seriously considering getting a refund and getting a different brand. After doing some web searches on the issue there are a few too many people having this issue for my comfort. An extended warranty would make me feel better but AW extended warranties are just too expensive.

Yea that's my thinking, it has to be a bad replacement part and yes they want me to send it to them. I did purchase the extended warranty though.

On the bright side, if the problems persist the odds are your m14x will be upgraded to shut you up, m17 anyone for price of m14 ;)

I think this one of the few features I like about dell, they always used to, and by others account still do ummm coerce your happiness ;)

They finally replaced mine. The replacement m14x seems to be working properly.

Having so may issues I ended up returning mine. I was getting close to the end of my return period and didn't want to miss it. Having the computer almost 3 weeks and only getting a few hours of use from it didn't make me very comfortable about the product. I ended up getting a great deal on an Asus G53. It has better specs, cost less, and hasn't had any issues.
