My Alienware ALIENWARE17 series keeps crashing my computer. Can you please help.

My Alienware 17 laptop series keeps crashing. It says: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (bwcW8x64.sys)

(I bought the thing not so long ago. So im quite dissapointed that this kind of stuff is going on with a 2700 euro laptop

I have googled a bit and i says it has got something to do with my Killer network manager. Can you please help me? I have tried reinstalling the network manager, this only meant i got more problems.

Kind regards,

Grey

Hi,

How often does the system crash? Does it crash when you're doing something specifically? Do you have an Antivirus program?

Hi,

It mostly crashes when im downloading something. I have a virus scanner. For example: I was downloading Armored Warfare, a 20 GB game, it crashed a round about 3 times during the download. It downloads at 5,00 MB/sec. There is nothing wrong with the internet connection (I checked, downloaded the game at my home PC).

Kind regards,

Grey

Hi,

Make sure your system is running the latest Bios firmware, click here for the download link. Also, can you confirm which Killer WiFi driver version you are running with the system?

Hi,

I downloaded the Bios, when i tried to run it it gave an error: IHISI: Get support mode error in SMI! SMI Return Code 0xEF. What does this mean?

Im running the Killer 1.1.56.1590. I think this is up to date, but im not sure.

Kind regards,

Hi,

Can you please confirm which revision of the Alienware 17 you have (for example, Alienware 17 R1)?

Hi, i have a question,

I bought this gaming laptop because I need it for online gaming. I’m sure you understand that the games nowadays are quite big (20 GB+) as downloading is the issue I am not reliably able to do this. If I am not possible to do this I actually lose money, I would like the problem fixed. I’m sorry to put pressure on you, but I really need it for my work. I understand that it takes time to update the system and fix the bug, but can't I just get another network manager?

Kind regards,

Grey

uninstall the wifi driver at all, and restar your computer, later make the BIOS upgrade to A06 from Dell support, when it finish, install the wifi driver again, from here

Hi,

@judal7837, i'm sorry to say, but you are not a DELL employee, and i only trust a solution brought to me by a DELL employee. Rodrigo, can you please respond? The time is short and i would really like a solution to the problem, if you can't help me, please give me your supervisor's contact data.

Kind regards,

Hi,

I’m sorry I have not replied earlier, I have been out of the office. I agree with what judal7837 says, try using the link he provided to install the Killer WiFi driver. Click here for the latest Bios version download link. Let us know how it goes.

i was trying to help you. i am gold that means that i helped a lot of people before.

i tell you this because i had 3 alienware notebooks before.

recently i have an alienware 15. and in my experience as gamer i had to deal with tons of problems.

and in most of them, i solved by practice and experience.

if you want an EMPLOYEE response GO and call dell support or chat with them.

THIS IS A FORUM my friend.

Alright Judal,

Im sorry to upset you, i will call Dell support about the issue tomorrow. Thank you for sending a reply.

Im just worried about breaking stuff and not having a insurance. I know this is a forum, but i am just mad at Alienware for not helping me out as quickly as you would expect them to with a 3000 euro laptop......

Kind regards,

your problem are software problem, nothing about hardware. Is really difficult that they can know how driver are you using and with windows 10, it download and install the driver it want. this can be your problem, indeed i am sure i am right.

looks this forum, all brands have problems like this, not only alienware

they dont make drivers for other brands, think about it.
