Problems with Alienware M14x-R2 System Restore
Hello all.
I am having a bit of a situation with my Alienware M14x-R2 which my partner passed down to me a couple of years ago. I was attempting to clean off the system and reset it to factory condition so that I could give the laptop to a friend, but I've run into somewhat of a snag.
Back in July I did the free upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 (not supported, I know...), and sometime between then and now the factory reset image became invisible to the BIOS (no boot to restore drive option available at startup) and USB booting became unavailable as well. An update to the BIOS didn't do anything to add the USB boot option back.
So as I am going about trying to restore the computer to factory settings, I use the AlienRespawn software. I make a USB stick with the system restore on it, but I can't boot to USB . Launching system restore from the program didn't do anything except reboot the computer like normal. So I made recovery DVDs.
After burning the discs I rebooted and selected boot from DVD. The (Windows 10) restore screens prompted me through the restore process, including reformatting the hard drive. But the whole process *** out at 66% (HD wiped, no prompt for disc 2) and now I am without any operating system on the laptop.
I tried repeating the restore disc process with the same result, so I am not sure what I can do next. I'm guessing I'd probably have to order restore media from Dell (OOW laptop here).
TLDR: I tried to restore my laptop to factory spec, the whole process *** out on me, and now I'm SOL and need help.
Thanks guys for any advice you may be able to provide!

Hi,
To boot from the USB drive, go to the BIOS, select the Boot menu on the top and set the Boot Mode setting to UEFI. Save and exit by pressing the F10 key. Plug in your USB recovery drive and access the boot menu by pressing the F12 key during boot. In the Boot Menu, look for the USB drive and press enter. If you do not see the USB drive on the list, please confirm what you do show on this list.

System restore is a great utility tool made by Microsoft in their windows operating system and with the help of this tool you can make your computer’s OS back to normal if it’s get faulty or corrupted. Microsoft released this tool since Windows Me came out in the year 2000 but you can still find this tool in almost every latest or previously released version of windows, beside all server edition OS’s like Windows Server 2008 etc. After Windows Me, Microsoft done a hard work on this tool to make it better and better and they get succeed by releasing a better version of this tool in windows vista and recently I’ve tested this tool on windows 10 after corrupting my windows and you know what, it works like a charm.
System restore only works when you’ve made any restore check point in your windows to restore that point in future to make your computer restored as it back then when it’s in normal state. I mean you’ll need to create a restore point in your operating system to save the current windows running state in your computer’s hard drive and that will allows you to use that windows backup to restore or reset your computer to ma........................................................................................................click to see more
