Problems with audio in Alienware 15 R2

hi

I am facing some problems with headphone/laptop speaker. If i connect the head phone to the audio jack, i hear no sound in the headphones but rather the sound continues to play from the laptop speakers. Now if i reboot with the headphone connected, when the system restart, the headphone works, but if i remove the headphones, the laptop speakers does not work.

I have tried reinstalling drivers several times it doesn't help.

Also sometimes i hear a buzzing sound just once after a fresh restart and system hangs for some 5 seconds then everything is back to normal.

Has anyone faced these problem with their alienware laptop ?

Is their a fix for this problem ?

audio devices should switch automatically, but in your case it doesn't for some reason.
do it manually. click on the speaker icon next to date and clock, expand audio devices and pick the one you need.

your second problem sounds like faulty Hard Disk Drive. someone from the Alienware Team should take a look at that.

Hello Thanks for replying.

I have tried that as a few articles have mentioned about that. But the problem here is that there is no headphone options in the play back devices.

There is only one speaker option. If i get to plugin the headphones and restart , it works with the head phone but in the playback devices it is still the speaker icon. Will downgrading drivers help ?

The other issue with the buzzing sound happens only once per restart/fresh boot and not every time. I do not know how to deal with that.

Hi FlashFlame‌,

Sometimes audio devices may not be in automatic, this can happen if there is no priority of one over the other. So as CarbonBasedLifeform suggested, go to playback devices and set up your headphones and speakers properly.

Regarding your second issue, try running an ePSA/Diagnostic test on the system, click here to view a Dell article that explains how to run this test. Let me know if you receive any errors.

aaahh... now i get it.

i don't know if older drivers could solve the issue. try to uninstall the Driver, then shutdown the system bootup again, and install the Drivers again.

regarding the buzzing noise. does it come from the speakers? i remember someone complaining about it in other thread.

however, do what Alienware-Eimy suggested first and then we'll see.

Hello Eimy,

Thanks for replying.

I have tried what you said as i read a few articles have mentioned about that. But the problem here is that there is no headphone options in the play back devices.

There is only one speaker option. If i get to plugin the headphones and restart , it works with the head phone but in the playback devices it is still the speaker icon.

What i tried right now was with default windows drivers and i had no problems seems to work and i tried the previous version of the drivers Audio_Driver_YRPVM_WN32_1.1.7_A02 , it seems to be working.

But i will wait for some more time test and see if the driver downgrade helped and let you know.

Also once i run the other test i will let you know,

Once again thanks for responding !!!

yes the buzzing sound(more like static screetch) does come from speaker, the whole system hangs for a few seconds,

The strangest thing is it happens only once per boot up, in never happens a second time so i do not know what to think of it !!!

Hi Eimy,

I finished running all the test in ePSA i got the "all test passed" result.

I have not run the complete memory test at the end, i will run it over night tomorrow and let you know.

Also like the grim reminder when i rebooted after running the ePSA test, i still got that screeching sound.

Oh after that driver downgrade the priority problem between speakers and headphones is yet to occur.

Going to test for a couple of more days and let you know.

All test in ePSA, including the memory test is done, no errors found, all test were successful.

Any other way to address this screeching sound ?,

Also the problem with speaker/ headphones is yet to occur, seems like down grading the driver fixed it.
