Upgrading Graphics Card x17 R3

Heya, I've been wanting to get round up upgrading my graphics card on my Alienware x17 R3 for a long time now, as new games come out, my FPS gets lower and lower. I am looking to buy a nice card from my Christmas and Birthday money, are there any available lists of cards that fit inside, and also are compatible with the machine?

I was talking to some friends in Teamspeak, and once of them has a 650 Ti, said it was very cheap and worked very well for the time he has had it. Is that compatible with the machine? Thanks, hope to seeing replies here soon! :)

Hello DeathD!

The video cards that we validated for this system are

Nvidia m460

Nvidia  GTX 560

Nvidia  GTX 580

AMD 6870

AMD 6970

AMD 6990

With any other video card we cannot assure you that the system will work properly.

Hm ok, thanks. I suppose I will end up getting the 580.

Just wondering, would it be possible to fix the low FPS I have, with the good spec PC I have, I run games such as Team Fortress 2 on about 40-55 FPS on minimum graphic setting?

Any settings I need to change, or is this usual due to how old the GPU is?

just for reference the 650TI and so foruth are DESKTOP video cards nnot laptop assuming you have the M17X R3 as it seems from the title..

I  had a M17X R1 with 260m's and it pulled over 100ffps so something is wrong .. either your running on the onboard video(not switching to discrete) or there is   issues with the card  itself.. or your running onbattery..

it would be nice to  know your current specs  then we can help out  a bit more from there..

being a laptop you gotta make  sure to  get a 580M video card then pending on current video card might need heatsink ..

I still cant see your current gpu model but here is an example and price of  a 580M..

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Dell-NVIDIA-GTX-580M-for-Alienware-M17X-M18X-/171186999929?pt=PCC_Video_TV_Cards&hash=item27db8a5279

and the heatsink this says 660M but  its just example for cost..

roughly 500 bucks  US total or  so .. just example .... so you know what your getting into for cost.. anyway you know what model gpu  you have .. CPU-z will tell you

dxdiag.pngThere are my specs, if you need anything else, lemme know.

Here is my NIVIDA control panel. If in the end I can't get this sorted, I suppose I will have to begin saving for a custom PC.
