X51 R2 BIOS A12 update questions

Hello all!
Regarding this new BIOS A12 update I dont understant why DELL gives the following description about it:
"This package provides the BIOS Update A12 on Area 51 R2 system BIOS running the following Operating Systems: Windows and DOS."
I mean is it really an update for X51 R2 ?? If so why it is described as an Area 51 R2 system BIOS ??
What are the specs / fixes/ properties of this update - anyone knows?
Has anyone istalled it yet on an X51R2? If so can someone describe step by step the whole installation process?
Thank you !

Hi,

The description is incorrect, thank you for bringing that to our attention. It should say X51 R2 instead of Area 51 R2. This Bios update does not appear to have any fixes but there is an enhancement (Support Windows 10 RS2 BIOS update). We recommend you do this update to avoid having any problems with Windows 10 updates, this Bios version has been tested on the X51 R2 and it is fully compatible.

Hi, I think I have an Alienware X51 R2 -  at least I have an intel i7 3770, 16gb RAM, 330w PSU and have upgraded to an RX480.

However, when I tried to run this bios update from Windows 10, I got the message

"no support this board"

Should I run this executable from DOS on boot? Or is it possible that I do not actually have an R2, but an R1. I thought that only R2 could support the 330w PSU?

Thanks for any info

if you don't know what Model you have how did you install all the Drivers? wrong Drivers could cause Problems like you have right now.

how to figure out your Model:

Option 1: go into BIOS and open Main Page.

Option 2: download CPU-Z and see what Model you have.

Option 3: go to the Dell Support Website and enter your Service Tag. you should see "Current Configuration" or something like that.

Option 4: open your System and take a look at the Motherboard. if you can't find a Model Number then look for Dell Product Number (DPN).

I have speccy installed. This gives me a motherboard model: Alienware 0KM92T

I can't find an R2 anywhere in the suggested places:

Bios just says Alienware X51

The dell website says Alienware X51 and only points me to bios drivers for an Alienware X51 (not R2)

I remember doing this all once before and at that time concluding that I had an R2, but it looks like that was wrong. Previously, I got all drivers from Dell service detect using my service tag. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 a few months back, when I upgraded my GPU. At that point, there really were not many drivers to install. I installed one from the dell website for the eject button on the dvd drive, the GPU drivers and I think that's it. Dell service detect only suggests three drivers changes, two of which are to do with the wireless driver and the third is the bios update (which appears to be for R1). The system came with bios A11 installed and I have never been able to change it.

So actually, it seems like I have an R1 and I can't seem to find a bios update for R1 that is for Windows 10. A14 is from Aug 2014.
