Alienware 15 dispatch dates

I placed an order for a Alienware 15 last week and received a confirmation email saying the ETA for delivery is the 5th Feb.

Looking at the order page today it looks like the turn around time has reduced to just 3 days, all laptops appear to have a ship date within the next 3 days. In theory, I'm guessing this should speed up my delivery time but my laptop is still at pre production stage after nearly a week.

Do you think it may be quicker to cancel my current order and place a new order? Ideally I would like the laptop by the end of the month as I'm starting a new course at Uni.

I've tried contacting support but they couldn't advise on any updates to my order but said they had base configured laptops ready to ship. My order is a base model with no modifications so wondering why they wouldn't be able to move mine forward slightly?

The delivery date might vary during the process so I will recommend you not to cancel the order.

You can send me a PM with the order number so I can check in what stage is right now.

Thanks Ctopher, that's pretty good timing. I'd be happy with that turn around time. I ordered mine on the 14th and it only appears to have just gone in to production earlier today. How long did yours take to arrive after you received shopping confirmation?

How are you getting on with the laptop so far?

It took me 8 days (including 4 weekend days) so 4 business days to get mine and I ordered on the 1/12 (received 1/20).

I got my weekend days count messed up sorry :D.

Sadly, I sent it back. I tried to swap hard drive to an SSD and wiped the previous 5400 rpm drive since I ordered a recovery USB and didn't want a drive around that had any info on it. Unfortunately, the recovery USB only contains windows and I should have created an alien respawn image and then used that to boot up and image the SSD. Dell does not currently support the Alienware 15 and their tech support doesn't think anyone should even have it until February. They were completely surprised I even had one. They do not have the drivers for the laptop on the website so I was screwed and told I had to wait until 2/10 (~20 DAYS at that time) to be able to get the drivers (980m drivers and various other drivers). I got a refund for my order and just ordered another one and also bought a USB 3.0 drive to make a backup immediately after I boot up so that I can have a restore image (highly recommend you do the same).

On a side note, it did look pretty sweet. I got the non "4k" display (1920x1080) and it doesn't have the glossy screen that most laptops comes with these days. I also have the graphics amplifier w/ a 980GTX that did not work. I'm hoping it was due to the driver issue and I am not going to have MORE problems with this thing.

I ordered the new one 1/21 and it went into production the next day. It's been there since so I am guessing it will ship sometime this week. Probably monday/tuesday. Same for you I would guess. Hope everything works well for you.

Ahhh!

I just noticed this morning the laptops seem to have decreased in price by £100.

My laptop hasn't arrived yet, anyone know if Dell may be able to offer me the updated price without me having to send the one on it's way back?

You could open up a support chat and ask nicely. You could get a cool rep that'll help you out. Also ordered a new one 1/21 and it shipped yesterday. They did mess up the shipping and shipped it 2day instead of next day I paid for and they refunded that. It's a process for sure :/

lol it sure is a process.

I've emailed my rep to see if he can do anything (I'm hoping it will be easier going through the same person)

I've already been told I'll be getting £50 refunded because of the amount of issues I had placing the order but £100 is better :P

I'd have gone for the 980m if I had known these would be the prices, according to reviews the 970m is pretty capable by itself.

I'm going mad tracking the delivery of the laptop, The status hasn't updated in 4 days since leaving China, is that normal?

I was told it should get to me by Friday but having my doubts if it isn't in the UK yet.

Yeah man the 970 is a good card and will get maybe 5-10 less FPS than a 980 from the videos I've seen on youtube. I got the 980m just to have a beast laptop card and I have the graphics amplifier with my 980 GTX from my old desktop. Hopefulllllyyyy there aren't any crazy issues with my system tomorrow. I'm in the US so I have no idea what other country travel times are. Hopefully everything works out well for you.
