M15x High Memory usage. Is this normal?

Hey all, just curious as I've notice when in idle mode with nothing running my taskmanager reports that of my 4GB installed memory 1.99GB / 50% of it is being used. Is this right? Usually it's around 34/37% and as stated I'm not running any programs just whatever it preloads up with. I have 77 processes running. Are there certain services that could be contributing to half my memory being used up or processes? And if so what are non essential services that could be closed down to lower my memory usage at idel??

Cheers

PS This is a brand new machine and would appreciate it if others with same Laptop and age could post their system memory usage at idle and their running services/processes.

That could be normal. It keeps programs you open alot cached in the memory so when you use them they can launch faster. Win7 uses more then versions before it. But you are saying it is usually around 34-37% and now it's at 50%?

If so then start keeping track of how much ram is being used. The main things you would be looking for is a program not releasing the memory once it's shut down, a memory leak in a running program or something new that is running that you dont know about such as a virus.

There are lists out there you can use to find out what services you can disable. What can be disabled depends on how you use the system. Start there and see what you can get it down to.

Good luck
