Alienware 17 R2 (2015) issues

Hello all,

I've bought my AW in March this year, and have been pretty satisfied until recently. Last week it stopped charging the battery (it shows it's plugged in, but doesn't charge), and in BIOS it shows unknown AC adapter and also shows the message that it can't recognise it.

Yesterday it suddenly recognised it and charged battery, and after that it again went to unrecognise mode. I tried unplugging it from power source and holding power button for 10-15 secs but nothing happens, I do suppose as it has fixed battery it also needs to be removed for power drain?

Also lately it started whirling the cpu fans for a few seconds right after system finishes booting (Windows 10) - first left then right just like when you do the cpu test.

Drivers are all up to date with latest BIOS version (A06)

Hi,

The battery does need to be disconnected for the power drain procedure. You don't have to remove the entire battery, just disconnect the little cable, did you already try this?

Hello,

Yes I found battery connector under the center bottom plate, unplugged it and did the hold power button, after which it charged battery full. Day after,  shutdown and connecting it to a charger again, BIOS stated the message it was not original dell alienware adapter, and it doesn't wanna charge again.

Should I take it for examine at service then?

OP, I am having (what seems to be) the exact same problem as yours (the fans also, left first and then right after booting up).

Check my other post (I posted it last night, Paris time):

Does it sound similar to you?

Also, OP: are you having the same processor speed problem as me because of the charging problem? Can you please do me a favor, open the Dell Support Assist and run an extended system scan when you have the time (should take approx. 40 mins to complete). For me, after running it (again, check my previous post), the processor speed jumps back to the normal range (max performance setting on) of 3.xx ghz AND the laptop seems to be charging normally again. Is it the same for you? try it out and let me know, please.

Hi,

It does sound like a hardware issue. Send me a PM with your service tag for further assistance with hardware support.
