14 R1, charging problem

Hello there. I need help with my laptop Alienware 14.

I have problem with charging.

I plug in charger, laptop is plugged in for about 20seconds and then shows unplugged and working on battery, after 5 - 6 seconds turns back to plugged in.

Sometimes the laptop freeze for about 5seconds, fan going on maximum and after 5seconds works normal.

Charger is 180w.

I tried another charger just 45w, if problem  will be still same, and with 45w charger is not a problem, plugged in all time, but charger is too weak to charge battery.

I tried install fresh windows, but problem is still same.

Is problem with charger or something with hardware?

Battery is really bad, on 100% shows 1h 20min and after maybe 20mins laptop turn off due battery is discharged. So maybe the problem due to battery? But I dont think.

many thanks!

If what you're saying is that one adapter doesn't work (cuts off) but the other one works, replace the adapter -- it has a damaged plug.

thank you for your reply.
And can’t be a hardware problem? The charger what I tried was 45w instead 180w. So the another charger was too weaker instead original charger.

And its any way to test the original charger with multimeter if its Okay? A can’t borrow another charger to test it to know if is my charger bad and new charger cost around 60£ - 100£, so I need be 100% sure if its bad charger😅

If the trial adapter did not disconnect, even if produced a low power warning, check the center pin on the adapter.  If it's bent and not making contact, it will cause the problem you're seeing.

Problem fixed (I hope) it was due battery. I tried disconnect battery and then charging all time with original charger.

When I put battery back, the problem was again. The charger disconnecting, when battery have 21%. When I discharge battery to 5%, then working charger perfectly to 21% and then again the problem. So I disconnect battery and now working without problems!
The second charger 45w works because it was too weak to charging battery.
Many thanks anyway.

@Tealcz are you still getting the fan issue or did that stop after you reinstalled Windows? This issue is usually due to the Dell Support Assist program so if you have not reinstalled it, don't. If you have then the problem will probably come back at some stage so you should remove it completely, which usually means removing about 3 separate programs.
