15 R2, is dead, no power

Hello.

I have an Alienware 15 R2.  It was working fine until a week ago, when it suddenly refused to turn on.  There is no whir of the fan, no lights, NOTHING.  My AC adapter shows a green LED light until I plug it into the computer - then the light disappears (and still nothing happens when I try to start the computer).

I've replaced the AC adapter (just in case), and replaced the internal battery (an hour-long process).  Still nothing.  I've also tried the following: Disconnecting all USB devices, disconnecting the battery to power only with AC, power draining, touching the CLRP1.  Nothing has worked!

If any computer updates were applied before this happened, I'm not aware of them.

Can anybody help?  Right now I have a very expensive and useless brick.

Thanks!

The following post goes rather in depth on the problem but to simplify, it could be the DC power jack on the laptop or it could be the mainboard. If you are able to try another adapter it will rule out the adapter as the source of the problem but I very much doubt the adapter is the problem.

This isn't what I was hoping to hear, but thanks for the information. :)

Sounds to me the motherboard on your 15 R2 has given up the ghost.

Hi, I have an Alienware 17 laptop and mine has been misbehaving ever since I got it about 2 years ago. I have this issue currently and I have discovered if you hold down the power button for 10 seconds (30 seconds to be safe) then let go and press the power button again then the laptop should boot up. I have to do this every time I want to start it. My Laptop used to be super fast at starting up and now it takes 5 minutes at-least, even after formatting and reinstalling windows. I have a firmware update that is urgent but because my laptop doesn't boot up after a restart it won't install it so I'm stuck with this old firmware with no way of updating. Hope this helps!

I am having the exact same problem... Tried all the same things. No luck. Did you happen to find any other solutions?

It’s motherboard or DC in failure. It’s common for notebooks of this age to fail after a while but that depends on how you use it.
