15 R3, trackpad light not working

I reinstalled windows on my machine and updated the BIOS based on what was available from the Dell drivers. After this my touchpad light stopped working. I have tried many things to get it to work. 

- alienware command center tester (nothing)

- reinstall windows

- install all latest drivers from dell as specified. 

I should also note that all other alienware lights work fine and there is nothing else wrong with the machine. Is this a hardware problem? That would be pretty upsetting considering the machine is very new.
