15 R3, unable to boot up

Hello, for the past two months i have been terrorized by this issue. Whenever i turn on my my laptop,  it goes to a black screen saying "checking media presence". The supportassist pops up to scan for hardware issues and just comes back with "No bootable devices" or "No bootable devices found, possible causes may be a corrupt OS or a boot device is not enabled in bios setup.

When i enter bios and look at my Boot Option Priorities, i only see two options-"Ipv4" and "Ipv6". I can not see any signs of a windows boot manager.  Pressing the "file browser add boot option" comes up with no media device. But pressing the file browser del option comes up with the option to delete windows boot manager.

Any help?

Hi, it has been some time since I have had this issue and I have since moved on. But it is very likely that your computer HDD/Motherboard may not be working correctly. As for my issue, I gave in and brought it to a repair shop where they diagnosed it with a faulty motherboard. Unless you are willing to open up your laptop to tinker with the parts which might not even guarantee to solve the issue, you are best to send it for repair with warranty or not.

Do try to follow the abovementioned solutions first like a clean OS reinstall and diagnostic test.

Hi @NJW122,

This could be related to the HDD not being detected or a corrupted OS.

First try running an ePSA/Diagnostic test on the system, click here to view a Dell article that explains how to run this test. Let us know if you receive any errors.

Also, make sure that the hard drive is being detected in the BIOS, if so, then you probably have to reinstall Windows.

So I seem to be having the same issue with the Alienware 15 R3 but before being able to figure things out my laptop shut down. And now I’m realizing the power cord is getting power because the blue led at the end is lighting up but as soon as I plug it into the laptop it goes out. So currently I’m dealing with that as well as the previous issue of the no boot device. Where should I begin with this?
