17 R1, no supported AlienFX devices were detected
Hello,
I just picked up an old 2014 edition 17 R1. However, I keep coming up with the above message stating my device does not support AlienFX. I was just wondering if there is a way to resolve this at all, or if this particular laptop is unable to have the lights customized, which seems unlikely to me! Any help offered would be greatly appreciated, as the lights are mixed and matched currently and it is driving me insane!
Thanks,
Seano

I recommend you reinstall Visual Studios C++ from Microsofts OFFICAL Site which is literally https://microsoft.com or just search Visual studios as that is what sometimes the issue can be caused from. I also recommend entering your serial code on Dells driver page to get the specific drivers for your model.

Have you done a clean installation of Windows? If you have then you will need to install the Microsoft .net Framework. This should auto-install. Only attempt to install Command Center once all the Windows updated have been done. \
Also, which version of Command Center are you trying to install? You need to install this one;

Occasionally, the 3.6 version will not install but you can try version 3.5

Hi @JaffaTakes please download Visual C++ Redistributable Runtimes All-in-One (July 2021) Download | TechPowerUp which could provide fix.
Fn + F12 key combination should toggle AlienFX off and on.

The 17 R1 site shows AWCC 3.6.4.0 as the last version officially supported.
17 R1 supported versions =
3.0.27.0
3.0.29.0
3.5.14.0
3.6.4.0

Also if you have Command Center installed already There should be something called AlienFX tester? I recommend also reinstalling visual C++ again but in Safe mode as that fixed many issues for my 15 r1.

There are some other light control apps, not the AWCC only.
AWCC becoming buggy after some years of support, f.e. it provides hang on sleep and hibernate at my old M13R2.
So... Google and replace. Good luck.

Just make sure you're trying to install the Notebook version and not Desktop.
Like I mentioned, I have come across the 3.6 Notebook version not wanting to install on supported systems for some reason. When this has happened then the 3.5 version has worked. This could be a BIOS issue, not really sure, so you may want to make sure your BIOS is up to date (Flash at your own risk though, one update version at time).
If nothing works then I would assume that the AlienFX chip on the board has an issue so it may need a new chip or a replacement motherboard.

Download this: Alienware Command Center Application | Driver Details | Dell US
Run as an Administrator and tell me how it goes.
But install the oldest version possible.
