17 R1, upgraded gpu not working with intel gpu
Hi, so after reading what seems like every single Alienware thread online I could not resolve the following specific issue.
I have an Alienware 17 R1 (2012-2013) which originally came with GTX 770m, however I've upgraded to GTX 980m. I got the GTX to work by switching the optimus mode off FN+F5 and installing modded drivers, however as expected the Intel card was not working in this mode. Switching back to optimus mode FN+F5 gets my Intel card to work, but GTX stops working. However, the Nvidia graphics settings are still present, but are only limited to three settings: - Adjust image setting
- Manage 3D settings
-Configure surround, physix (I'd presume this means it's not working, even though the 980m is shown in the above settings).
Additional notes:
-All Nvidia settings are present for GTX when in Fn+F5 (optimus mode off)
-tried all sorts of different drivers (old and new) -tried uninstalling drivers with DDU safe boot/wifi off and installing clean versions of intel first then NVidia drivers
-tried changing global nvidia settings to use to high performance nvidia processor -updated bios to A17
-Device manager shows both graphics cards in optimus mode/only gtx when optimus mode turned off (FN+F5)
-tried different games/programs to see if they provoke gtx to start operating
-tried different settings in Bios (uefi-legacy/secure/fast boot etc).
-Interestingly HDMI cable doesnt work when GTX works in FN+F5 mode.
https://ibb.co/bmdqd3b - this is how it looks when in optimus mode with Intel card working.
Any advice is welcomed.
