17 R2, DC power connector

Question

Hi All! Picked up a used Alienware 17 R2 recently. The laptop works fine, couldn't tell of any issues until I opened it up to remove an external hard drive. Found the ol' DC port has burnt. Further research reveals this is a very common problem, albeit a hazard haha. Because the thing is out of warranty, I can't book or email for any assistance to help me fix it myself. All I want to know is the pinout for that DC connector on the motherboard side. I'm fairly confident that the motherboard is okay, as it was operating fine, but still I want to check resistances against individual pins to make sure there is no short circuit, as (from memory) there were pins that were open circuit (not 'related') to any of those pins, and then there were some that were. Ive ordered bits to fix it. But aside from turning off express charging, updating bios etc id rather give myself the best chance of not running into this issue again, or by (as others have suggested) leave the battery unplugged and run it as a desktop. Rather not go down that route tho, as I bought this for mobile not for a desktop. Kind regards!

If there is no local repair shop, you can How to arrange an 'Out of Warranty' repair on your Dell System | Dell US or $100 Dell Laptop Repair | Dell Repair | Laptop Repair | Notebook Service Center (parts-people.com).

The DC Power Input Jack Plug with Cable - DP/N T8DK8 is a separate part and its replacement should get your laptop function working, so that you do not have the use it as a Desktop with battery removed. Dell support for Alienware 17 R2 includes Removing the power-adapter port, etc. and there are YouTube guidance videos to watch.
