17 R3, unable to clone using AcronisTrueImage 2021
2016 Alienware 17R3
current: Hitachi 1TB HDD
replacement: Western Digital 2TB SN550 SSD
My plan is to clone this HDD to SSD, then remove the HDD, and use it as a backup in a external HDD enclosure
I have downloaded the Acronis True Image 2021 software from the western Digital Site.
I have installed the SSD in the SSD slot within the laptop and tried to clone HDD to SSD using the software.
however, I am not able to click or press on the Clone button . It says " western digitial drive required"
Does it mean that the software only works for western digital HDD ?
When i try to open disk management, it is showing a pop up window to click ok. . Is it due to this reason ?
Attached images for your reference

Thanks everyone for the reply.
I have overcome the problem. Sharing it for the benefit of others.
I called the WD customer care and they advised me the following:
1) initialize the disk by going to disk management you do this by pressing (win+x), pop up appears and click on OK.
2) then right click on the unallocated volume from the new drive and create a new volume. This will basically format the disk once.
3) finally, now when I tried to clone the disk, it allowed me to....

hmm, this is just an alternative method but I would ditch the Acronis and use Macrium reflect free to do the cloning. It's also free as the name suggest.

@shravan_dell Yes, there are editions of Acronis that are locked to specific vendors. If you want “universal” Acronis, you have to buy that. But some HDD vendors have deals with Acronis to offer free versions to people who buy their HDDs. CyberLink does the same thing with PowerDVD.
I agree with the suggestion to try Macrium Reflect Free. I use Reflect myself and the Free version will do what you need here.
