17 R4, Blue Screen Issue

Every game I open runs with no lag and after 15 minutes my pc crashes to a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_BOOT_ERROR.
And my factory oc laptop GTX 1080 doesn’t go above 1557 base clock. Boost clock is maybe 1660hz. And the laptop keeps crashing on high load. It works fine on windows 1909 but not in 2004. But if I use 1909 my laptop keeps updating to 2004 version windows. And in 1909 I had to use older drivers to make it work,
something like 442 or something.

I had this similar issue when I upgraded from 1809 to 1909 windows 2 years ago. After a few months later a NVIDIA driver update fixed my issue. But now it came back again. And been having this for 4-5 months now. I am running a maxed out Alienware 17 R4. Specs : i7 7820HK 32gb ram GTX 1080 OC 1440p G-sync 120hz panel Motherboard updated to the latest BIOS.

And I don't know what's going on. I am running an Alienware 17 R4 GTX 1080 OC. Had a lot of issues with NVIDIA's driver, so I tried DELL's. So my hardware specific driver is this July 2020. But I can even install this January 2021. Description says 16 series and 20 series cards, I don't even have them. So how can I install them? Something is seriously wrong with NVIDIA or DELL.

@crimsom SSD is ok , this happened before. If the PCIE link that is powering the hardware has a faulty driver or etc. Its suppose to get a crash like that. The PCIE driver fails to give adequate power when needed.

PS: The SSD passes and so does the full hardware test.

Dell needs to update the PCIE chipset drivers. That's the only solution that worked before.

These 2 needs to be updated.

You could try installing drivers direct from nvidia.

If you have the 32bit version of windows 10 then the last drivers are pretty old

https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/driverResults.aspx/132925/en-uk  or

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/132842/en-us

64bit windows 10 is right up to date

https://www.nvidia.co.uk/Download/driverResults.aspx/172197/en-uk  or

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/172063/en-us

@crimsom It may or may not be the bios at this point, the intel chipsets are out of date and the intel management engine. I mean they show up on device manager as “This device is working properly “

but in the event tab it says oem inf 20 or etc etc driver failed to start, depending on corresponding chipset devices.

@crimsom everyone says the chipset should be updated from the individual manufacturers website. As they intend to make changes and updates on their motherboard and chips.
so my chipsets doesn’t show up on intel update utility. And when I try to look for it manually from the intel website. It also says the exact same thing. Go to your manufacturer website. And the current one at intel is way older. The base model chipset.

@crimsomdon’t worry bro. I always download the bios and save it and then install with all peripherals removed and internet disconnected.

@crimsom can you confirm what chipset and processor you are using !?
I am on intel 7820Hk

these are the drivers :

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=5rmdw&oscode=wt64a&productcode=alienware-17-laptop

https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=5mprf&oscode=wt64a&productcode=alienware-17-laptop

intel only has the chipset and it does get updated. But not the intel management engine interface. and even if I update the 2mb chipset from intel it gives the same message “device working properly “ an in event driver failed to start.

@crimsom These type of device drivers failed to start :

intel(r) pcie controller (x16) - 1901

intel(r) pcie controller (x4) - 1909

and etc etc. as I am not on my laptop I forgot their names. Some were working and some were not. And if I am not mistaken these are the pcie express controllers that is connected at ssd and gpu. So The PCIE controllers are not up to date and there is no update yet. Thus they are not working. DELL needs to release a stable working update ASAP.

@crimsom First of all Thank you so much for helping me out here, I really appreciate your help.

I am currently not on my laptop, when I get on it, I will give you an update.
but I looked through your given link. Its mostly the Intel XTU or the onboard intel graphics.
my problem is with the Intel C230 chipset thats in my motherboard I guess and the Intel Management Engine Interface. But there are no updates on it.
I haven’t tried this yet maybe its the new version of intel update utility

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/28539/Intel-Processor-Identification-Utility-Windows-Version

This is the only thing that I don’t know about, I’ll give you an update later if this updater fixes my issue. But I strongly doubt it. As you said it’s the PCIE problem. But I had this same problem before as well then a few months later the latest Chipset and Intel management engine update fixed it. Maybe along a bios and the nvidia driver update. This was way back when I upgraded from windows 1809 to 1909. And now again from 1909 to upgrade 2004.

may I also mention it works fine on windows 10 1909 build.

Hi @Fahim 07  thank you for sharing an update. This extra information suggests that the Intel Core i7-7820HK Processor and/or the system board (aka motherboard) has a PCIe (data highway) problem. Downloads for Intel Core i7-7820HK Processor are Here.  Download for the Intel Processor Diagnostic Tool is Here

Did the Dell F12 ePSA Diagnostics test all the hardware, with all tests getting a pass?

Perhaps the root cause of these strange system problems can be revealed.

@crimsom Also another thing that I failed to mention. The Full pc hardware test EPSA by dell system utility also passes on windows 10 2004 version. But it is a random thing. And if it passes. Immediately the pc crashes and restart.

Hi @Fahim 07  thank you for sharing update.

Thank you for the extra information. Seems that the data highway between CPU and GPU has a problem. It is going to be difficult to locate the actual root cause. Did the Windows Reliability Monitor's timeline provide a reoccurring critical event that provides a clue?

@crimsom Oh and another thing the windows environment of EPSA on gpu fails as it has data highway issue. But there is a epsa test on BIOS environment or boot environment , that passes. And it also passes on windows 1909 older version.

@crimsom Yeah the drivers get update through windows update. And its all up to date.
And the reliability monitor has a critical event of same type when it crashes.

“system stopped responding and restarted without cleanly shutting down first”
this is the kernel event error .

@crimsom The even it maybe “error event id 41 kernel power”

but I’ll give you a screenshot of the error and the event log attachment the next time I turn on my laptop.
and it might take a bit of time, As I am having problems in my laptop. I don’t run it unless I have work or its absolutely necessary. But don’t worry I’ll definitely post an update later.
THANK YOU so much for your time and help brother.

@crimsom Here is the event log for crashes you wanted. I got a splash screen of WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR and the system reboots. Like I had way back when upgrading to 1909 version of windows. Crash event friendly viewCrash event friendly viewCrash event logCrash event loghttps://drive.google.com/file/d/11NVEvI9trz5Ypv4aoJWF2IzdR-QmCsKX/view?usp=sharing [Log file]
