17 R4, CPU fan failed to respond correctly

My CPU fan will at times run high and will not shut off.  Task Manager says the CPU is running 4-12%.

I checked background jobs.

updated firmware and all drivers

The only thing that temporarily works is to reboot, f12  run Diagnostics on the memory and then exit and reboot.

There has to be a better solution.

Here is the Error:

Error Code: 2000-0511

Validation: 81175

Description:  The (CPU Fan) fan failed to respond correctly

Time to replace the fan -- if you need a part reference, reply with the system model number and which fan has failed (most Alienware systems have more than one fan).

If the system is under warranty, contact Dell with the error and validation code and they'll arrange a repair according to your warranty (Basic:  they ship a box, you send the system and it's repaired at a depot;  on-site, they dispatch the part and a technician to your home or office).

Hi @roofamilyh  welcome to this user to user discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.

The OP did not share Model or Revision or OS or if system under Warranty. Generic information follows:-
(1) Check that all incoming and outgoing vents are not obstructed. Clean out vents with canned air.
(2) Remove panel to expose fan blades, check not covered in debris, remove debris with plastic tool.
(3) If system is more than a few years old, clean out system board with canned air.
(4) Dell fans have thermistors that report speed/temperature/etc., replace fan if thermistor has failed.

Thanks for you reply.  Doesn't the fan just spin off a signal from the motherboard.  Fan spins and is very quiet.  I don't think its the fan at all.

I guess I will need to go in and open up the laptop and air spray the area on the motherboard.  I already opened and air sprayed.  I need to remove another layer to air spray the motherboard.

See what happens.  Right now as I am writing this the CPU fan is acting normal.  Could be a false lull before is starts up again.

Thanks for you reply,  I updated the drivers air sprayed vents and fans.   Still happening.

I found a couple of optional drivers that needed installed.  It sill happening.  I changed my monitor arrangement.

Before:

  • 2 Dell monitors & laptop screen for a total of 3 screens used

After:

  • 2 Dell monitors & closed the laptop for a total of 2 screens used

So far CPU fan is running normal.  I will keep monitoring and see what happens
