17 R5, Mid Life Kicker

The Dell transit box arrived and the external adhesive label says Model No. Cassini 17 MLK.  Thanks to P_Munky who worked for Dell and says MLK = Mid Life Kicker, basically a change in hardware or design after launch.

Open the Dell transit box and it looks like an Alienware 17 Laptop, but is it what has been ordered?

Visit Dell Product Support and click on Detect PC. Thankfully it says Alienware 17 R5 and also reveals the Service Tag and the Express Service Code. The Product Details provides the link View System Configuration, and the opportunity to look at the Original Configuration or the Current Configuration. Now it gets interesting.

The Original Configuration does not match the laptop order specification. OK, this must have changed because it is a Cassini 17 MLK. Open the Current Configuration expecting to see the before and after MLK change in specification and configuration, but this information is not provided. Now disappointed because do not know what has been delivered in the Dell transit box! There are three examples in the following table:-

  Original Configuration Order
Panel (screen) 17.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) 60Hz IPS 17.3" QHD (2560 x 1440) 120 Hz TN G-Sync
Operating System Windows 10 Home x64 Windows 10 Professional x64
Tobii Eye Tracking No Yes

SupportAssist responds to the Service Tag ID, but does SupportAssist know that the Laptop hardware and software configuration has been changed by MLK?

Are the SupportAssist's "No issues found" valid, AlienFX LEDs do not work, etc. ?
